nature photography dayNature photography is a lifelong hobby for some, but everyone at some point in their life plays a nature photographer. Vacations are one of the best opportunities to photograph the scenery of your environment, and virtually every vacationer will have scores of photos to share of beautiful flowering trees, breathtaking vistas, or animal life they observe throughout their visit. Anyone can learn to take beautiful nature photos, and it is the widespread love of nature photography that led to the creation of Nature Photography Day.

Now in its 8th year, Nature Photography Day was established in 2006 by the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) as a way to promote the enjoyment of nature photography to the public, and to increase awareness of the role it plays in the conservation of nature worldwide. People from all over the globe, as well as in North America, have embraced Nature Photography Day and participate and celebrate in a variety of ways — namely by taking photos of all the beautiful things in nature!

Nature Photography Day is Saturday, June 15, and no matter what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, there are plenty of nature opportunities just waiting to be captured out there. If things seem somewhat bleak, you can always try your hand at black and white nature photography, which can reveal a surprising amount of depth and texture that isn’t always apparent in color photography. Check out this video to get some tips on how to get those truly stunning nature shots, and don’t forget to get out there and celebrate Nature Photography Day this Saturday!
