Earth Day is one of the most celebrated times of year for conservationists and people who care about keeping the planet in the best shape it can be for generations to come, but many people don’t understand much about what it is besides a big buzzword.
Earth Day happens every year on April 22 and is celebrated by more than 192 countries worldwide. For 43 years, people from nations all over the globe have recognized Earth Day as a time to heighten everyone’s awareness of how our actions affect the world around us, and what we can do to make those actions more harmonious, rather than antagonistic.
Issues like pollution, waste of resources, overfishing, climate change, overpopulation, and energy consumption are all addressed on Earth Day, and while some of these issues may seem like they are bigger than us as individuals, there are ways to make an impact on all of them in your daily life. Choosing not to buy certain seafoods, using less water and electricity, and making sure to reuse, reduce, or recycle as much of our waste as possible are very simple changes to our habits that certainly have an impact on the world at large. Imagine if everyone committed to making these changes, how different our world would be in a matter of time. That’s exactly what Earth Day is for: to make you think and act in any way you can.
Check out this video that explains in detail the historical origins of Earth Day, and ask yourself if there’s any way you can help be a part of this important global movement!
