Snowshoeing is a fast growing winter sport. Ski resorts around the country have seen an increase in snowshoe interest as people look outside the box for winter activities. While skiing, snowboarding and high terrain activities remain a great pastime, more ski and winter resorts are offering moonlight treks, guided tours and other opportunities to learn about and enjoy this natural, easy going sport. Here are three outstanding places to snowshoe.

1. Beaver Creek Resort, Colorado

McCoy has rustic trails for the snowshoe enthusiast. Your reward will be picturesque views of the mountain ranges. There are Nature Tours with local guides revealing history and facts about the area. Fit Tours are definitely a workout. Explore the scenic area with the Beaver Creek Mountain Tour. The Family Nature Tour is geared toward the kids, exploring McCoy Park in a leisurely manner while learning about the park’s flora, fauna and history. Mamie’s All Day Lunch Tour promises a great meal at Mamie’s Mountain Grill. You will likely work up a big appetite on the trails anyway!

2. Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort, Oregon

If any state mirrored the concept of the great outdoors, it’s Oregon. It’s beautiful, wide open spaces. Covered in snow, it’s an adventure that can’t be matched. There are plenty of snowshoe tours, hitting the trails and watching the sun fall between the mountains in a spray of color. It’s an incredibly liberating experience. Mt. Bachelor offers a series of ‘Wanderlust Tours,’ geared for a number of adventures. There are easy strolls along flatter areas or leaps into powder-covered lava flows.

3. Stowe Mountain Resort, Vermont

With 100 miles of trails to explore, this is one arena that should appeal to challenge seekers. With some of the heaviest snowfalls in Vermont, look forward to three to five inches and more on the mountains. They have Beginner Trails with gradual climbs and bridges. The Intermediate Trails have steeper climbs through Peavy Trail and Bear Run. The more advanced trails will put your strength and durability to the test, so be sure the entire group is aware of this and up to the task.
