The DIY world is exploding these days, showing us all how much power we actually hold in our own hands and minds to not be consumers. Using your ingenuity and available resources to solve a problem is a pretty good feeling, and makes you wonder why you run to the store for every need anyway. Today, we’re going to help you catch that feeling with a tutorial on making a survival stove out of a tuna can or an Altoids tin!

There are all kinds of scenarios in which a survival stove will come in handy. Natural disasters often cause power outages for days, leaving stranded residents without hot water or a way to cook. Though small, a survival stove out of a tuna can will generate enough heat to boil water or stay warm in an emergency situation. Make more than one to give away to friends or stockpile for your prepper stash!

The materials you’ll need you likely already have around the house or can easily obtain:

  • empty and cleaned tuna can or Altoids tin
  • corrugated cardboard
  • solid beeswax
  • saucepan
  • shallow metal pan for melting wax
  • candle wicks
