Anyone who has seen photographs or video of Montana would be hard pressed to describe it as anything but extraordinary. Thousands of acres of pristine forests and numerous mountain ranges have long identified Montana as a beacon of fresh air, wildlife, and unmatched beauty. That also means it offers much in the way of outdoor recreation, with plenty of hikes and trails to be explored. If you happen to be visiting, check out these 5 hiking trails in Montana, the Big Sky Country.

1. Glacier Park Nature Trail, Sun Point

This day hike is a mere 1.3 miles. There could be some sore leg muscles if you haven’t put your strength to the test for a while, as there is a 100 foot rise during the short distance. There is a wondrous view of St Mary Lake at the top of the hike. The hike begins off of GTTS Road, at Sun Point Parking.

2. Clements Mountain, Logan Pass

Although this Montana hike is only a total round trip of 4 miles, it is a strenuous, steep hike to the peak. It is all worth it, because of the spectacular views that prove to be excellent photo opportunities.

3. Mount Aeneas, Trail #717, Bigfork

This 7 mile day hike takes you to the mountain summit and back, with 1,778 feet to the top. Enjoy the view of Flathead Valley, from the top, and countless mountains beyond. The hike begins at Camp Misery.

4. Tally Lake Overlook, Whitefish

This hike is a challenging 6 miles, full of roots and rocks, but your reward is the breathtaking lake and mountain views at the top. This hike is for the moderately and experienced hiker.

5. Wolf Creek Trail, Trail #544, Bigfork

This Montana hike spans a full 12 miles, trails through thick strands of pine trees, with some rocky sections. You will get plenty of views of the valley and the lake along the way to the top, so take your time and have a look around as you go. Head towards Jewel Basin until the parking lot is in sight, and start the hike on the single track at the right side of the parking lot.
