Everyone eventually faces the dreadful cramping or nausea associated with the onset of an upset stomach, and the worst place this can happen is out in the woods. Some people turn to antacids and other drugs only to find that these drugs have some awful and equally unpleasant adverse reactions. To make matters more complicated, antacids halt digestion, which can create an even worse acid response from the stomach, as the stomach kicks back by producing more acid to attempt to complete digestion. Fortunately, there are numerous natural remedies for upset stomach that work far better to help the stomach return to normal.

1. Digestive Enzymes

The next time you are tempted to pop antacids, because you ate something that upset your stomach, try taking a quality digestive enzyme supplement instead. Digestive enzymes not only help the stomach complete digestion, but they also help take the edge off of an upset stomach at the same time. Since digestive enzymes do not prevent or halt digestion, like antacids do, this makes their use a more digestive system friendly approach to controlling an upset stomach caused from something a person has eaten.

2. Cloves

Among the natural remedies for upset stomach that exist, cloves are perhaps one of the faster acting remedies. Used in old times as a dental aid, cloves are also able to employ that same numbing power on a painful upset stomach. Just chewing on a clove stem and swallowing the mild numbing agent can make a significant difference in a lot of situations where a stomach ache starts to get unbearable. Plus an added benefit of cloves is that they can easily be kept in your pocket for quick access in a pinch.

3. Ginger

Ginger root has chemical substances called gingerols and shogaols, which aid the digestive system in helping to control an upset stomach. These chemicals work by relaxing the digestive tract. This makes them useful for preventing stomach problems associated with motion sickness. They are also useful in helping to ease the symptoms associated with the flu. You can use crystallized or raw ginger to make a tea, or buy ginger chews to keep in a coat pocket or first aid kit on camping trips.
