It thought it would be super combustible, but it wasn't very easy to light. Tried with a match, and then with paper. Makes me wonder: did I get a bum pack, or did I fall for a gimmick?

Can't find dry tinder? If you have these along you'll have no problems. You can light them whole. You can also shave off pencil sharpener sized pieces, arrange them into a pile and it will take a spark from a firesteel. Good to pack in you survival kit even when dayhiking. You never know if you will find yourself spending an overnight in the woods. Great alternative to the cotton ball and p-jelly trick.
