Perfect for small adventures

After destroying my regular backpack that I use for our ropes and gear, I decided to try out this mini haul bag. It is fantastically durable and despite its small stature, easily holds all of the ropes, biners, and harnesses needed for a day at the crag. The shoulder straps and belt are plenty comfortable for long approaches and stow away with ease. The straps on the outside are also well designed, offering space to hang helmets and harnesses while you walk. The base of the bag is made stiff enough that it can stand up on its own allowing you the freedom to work with your gear without holding up the bag. On top of that, there are drain holes in the bottom so it wont collect water (or energy bar crumbs. My only qualm is the little zippered pouch inside is a tad awkward to use due to it's orientation but it still holds all of the tape, chalk, and other small bits I need.

almost perfect for canyoneering

I have successfully put a hole in every single bag I have ever taken canyoneering until I saw a friend carrying a BD Haul Bag. I instantly bought one and it has become my go to bag for most canyons. It also serves as my canyoneering equipment storage. The only time I don't take it is if I am in super tight slot canyons where this bag won't really fit.

Takes a beating

I bought this a month ago and have since made this my go to bag. Thing holds all my trad gear with my rope inside. very well fitting, and feels good when i am on my approach. Would recommend this to anyone.

Awesome, well-rounded

I bought this pack because a few coworkers recommended it to me for guiding. This is my go-to pack whenever I go climbing (sometimes even when I go to the gym! and it fits everything you could need unless you're going to spend the night on the wall or something. My only issue is that if it is raining super heavily, the pack sometimes acts like a bucket and I have found upwards of five inches of standing water in it! So keep your phone in a plastic bag just in case. On a long guiding day where you may have a rack and a large first-aid kit, layers, food/water, etc. You may need to strap the rope to the outside, but I have found that if you turn the hip-belt around and clip it around the pack, you can strap the rope down around it. A simple NRS strap or something could also do the trick. Overall, an awesome piece of gear that I would recommend in a heartbeat to anyone.

Great for engineering/accessing boulder-problems

I mean that in more ways than one! Just moving naturally or deliberately cleaved slabs and boulders to access climbing boulder-problems is a challenge requiring sequential, incremental leveraging, lifting, and releasing. Often enough, wearing a helmet is pointless— when and where being crushed is the potential to be avoided! I've used this pack for hauling chains, winch, hard-rock mining tools, a hydraulic jack and the usual alpine hardware to develop granite bouldering spots inconspicuously in the foothills and high-country around Santa Fe. It's the only pack that is constructed and sized for portaging compact, awkward and painfully heavy hardware making it possible to move 500~2000 pound granite blocks (slowly and carefully). My only complaint is that the flap designed to keep the shoulder straps from shredding (when hauling) chafes the nape and upper shoulder area, so I trimmed the flap just enough to fix the issue. Made of nearly indestructible dirt-colored haul-bag material.

Good bag

This thing is pretty awesome! I can simply toss my gear into it and head to the crag, or haul light loads to ledge camps. It's like a little gear dumpster. It carries well as a pack and can take a pretty good beating. All around good pack. The only drawback is the sternum strap is elastic, so you may want to think about changing that once you get it. I like it when my straps don't stretch too much, especially on the approach when I have the little haul bag filled to the gills with beer.

Tough and Versatile

We have used this for rappels. You can fit 4 helmets and harnesses in it for a group or hold a 300' rope with extra gear. Have used it on ATV access areas in mud and dirt, design makes it easy to stow on ATV and keeps the contents clean and dry. Was dubious about the pack straps, but they actually work and were more comfortable than anticipated on a few hour hike. Free standing design with stiff sides make it easy to fill. Everything seems built to last years of hardships. Not waterproof, but if you throw a plastic bag over the top in a storm, the contents stay dry.
