This is the fourth post of our 5-part series on disaster preparedness and how you can formulate your own plan. Check out yesterday’s post to get caught up.
Now that you’ve learned how to assemble a bug out bag, it’s time to consider where you’ll bug out to, and how to survive once you get there based on what you’ve brought in your bug out bag and anything you might have been able to carry in your hands.
If you have a predetermined bug out location that is well-concealed and secure, you can store items there that you’ll likely need in the event of a major disaster but won’t fit in your bug out bag or be easy to carry. That’s not to say you should be toting your La-Z-Boy to your bug out location. Items that will be useful, but otherwise unwieldy, include axes and other large tools, weapons and ammunition, and shelter-building or water storage/collection supplies.
Check out this video series from Sigma 3 Survival School explaining what you should look for in a bug out location and how to assemble a long term shelter, and a more comprehensive look at the contents of a bug out bag. And be sure to check back tomorrow for a wrap up of everything we’ve covered!
