Gear Snob Bottom Line: Buy the Chair!
Let me start by saying I am a bit of a gear snob and a skeptic (bad combination). I will spend top dollar on something to not have to go through the hassle of replacing or warrantying a lower quality product many times over. Also, I find things wrong with products, it's what I do, much to my wife's chagrin. While there is certainly some room for grace, the last thing I want to do is spend my hard earned money on a product that is going to make me stranded or drenched out in the bush. Having s...aid that, I have long looked for a lightweight chair to take with me on hiking treks. Whether carrying kids or hiking solo, after many miles I've often longed to sit on a nice comfy chair when I am furthest away while in the woods. My skepticism, and questioning of the extra weight, has always positioned me to take a seat on an (unbeknownst to me) ant infested log or better yet, I deprive myself of this needed rest. Enter the GCI PackSeat - this is where it's at. Weighing in at 1lb 5 oz (600g for you weight weenies), this chair comes in a convenient case that can easily be shed to save even more precious grams. Additionally, it comes with a handy carabiner that you can use to easily clip the chair to your pack. Really, what company includes everything you need these days? New pack? Buy a rain cover. New tent? Buy a footprint. New mountain bike? Upgrade all the touch points?I digress. GCI has clearly thought it all out. The PackSeat is plug and play, you don't even have to search the bottom of your gear box for a carabiner! I am 6'1", 175 and this chair is plenty comfortable. I've seen other reviews that address it not being sturdy?well, it's a three legged chair, it's going to feel different than a four legged chair, amirite? Unless you sit on three legged chairs 24/7, you just can't complain that a chair with three legs isn't as sturdy as a chair with four legs?it's not supposed to be. Is this chair for toddlers? No. It's for anyone that is looking to take a load off, for instance to fuel up while looking out among a wide expanse, and then some. Let's be clear, you shouldn't expect a plush backed chair where you can sit for hours and hours, and besides, you shouldn't be looking for that here anyway. Bottom line: This chair will get the job done. Don't expect it to be a La-Z-Boy, and don't buy this for your kid. Buy the chair for yourself and enjoy the extra "oomph" it will give you when you turn your boots around and head back down the mountain.
