I am a Ph.D. student and I spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week during the month of Sept - Mar hiking through national parks across NE Tennessee (the Smoky and Cumberland mountains. These shoes are perfect for hiking through wet, rocky, rough terrains. They take one or two wears to break in and about 3 years of heavy use for them to wear out. Stays water proof even when standing in running streams. Shoes do tend to scratch easily, but who cares. I am on my second pair now and all of my field assistants have purchased these same shoes.

Do not buy these shoes for cold weather use. If it is windy, snowy or below 32 degrees F my toes are numb within a few hours of hiking and if I am sitting and observing birds my feet are cold/numb within a few moments. When the weather is as such I wear a much heavier, less comfortable pair of boots with thick furry lining. ALso, you can try electric socks.

Boots are a little warm during summer hiking - I recommend a lighter shoe like keens or salomon for summer hiking. columbia also makes great summer hiking shoes.

All in all - great shoe once you figure out how they work best for you.

This is my second pair of these brilliant hikers! I love them and wouldn't wear any others now. Perfect for any hiking conditions. They keep your feet dry and warm in wet weather and I wear them even when not hiking. There is no break in time, as soon as you put them on they are magic, no sore spots at all.
There is nothing negative to report about this hiker no matter what it's use.

Comments about Timberland White Ledge Waterproof Hiking Shoes for Women - Dark Brown:

This is my third pair of these boots. I love them. I live in Montana and they are great for the snowy, cold weather. Keep my dry and warm and great traction for icy areas. I cut lawns and weeds in the summer and I use them for that work. They protect my feet and while working and are comfortable. They are great for hiking in the hills too. I once broke my little toe and I use these boots everday for months to protect my toe and help it heal. They worked great for that because they gave my toe great support and protection. I searched to find another pair. I hope they never quit making this style, I LOVE THEM!!!!

Comments about Timberland White Ledge Waterproof Hiking Shoes for Women - Dark Brown:

I use my boots for daily walking of my dog and also hiking in the mountains. They are so comfortable and there is no breaking in period, you just put them on and go. One of my last pair did split along the side near the ball of my foot, but it did get some tough treatment, and it is still OK for walking in dry weather it's just not waterproof now. Nothing lasts forever. I would definitely recommend them to any lady who needs a confortable walking/hiking boot.

I work in a warehouse and am on my feet all day, so a good fit is very important.

These boots were comfortable right out-of-the-box, no break-in required.

I would definitely buy these boots again.

              Questions about this item:

Michael B  I'm looking for a new pair of boots to do some backpacking and was wondering if these would work well for a 3 day 15 mile trip?
JOHN M  Well, I absolutely love these boots. I had a pair of stiffer soled boots that ended up hurting my knee due to their lack of flexibility. I guess it may depend on how heavy of a pack you will be carrying but myself, my wife as well as friends have moved to a more flexible hiking boot for comfort and surefootedness. Hope this helps you decide. Also, if you saddle soap them now and again they just get looking better and better. I get compliments on them all the time.
Shopper  Going to Escalante for a fews days to camp (hiking in 5 mi. or so) the first of May. Is there a hiking boot made for warmer clims?
SunnySports S  There are two essentials for hiking, a pack that fits and shoes that fit and SUPPORT. I don"t know what the terrain is like, but these boots will protect your feet on the bottom, top and sides. If you have ever slammed your ankle bone on a rock, then you know what I mean. Use a lite weight sock combo, liner & over, to wick and keep your feet dry. A tiny bit of talk works great!Have Fun Out There!Carl
