I put 150 miles on these boots with a 35 pound pack,(and I am a 260 pound man.) Then I hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim with only one very small blister on the way out. I loved them so much I bought another pair and have been using them for work and I spend the day on my feet. Just bought another pair because the price is good. I am looking forward to getting them on my feet.
Best Boots I Ever Owned

The Timberline Chicororua boots are sturdy, comfortable and waterproof. I had owned a pair of the slightly less expense Timberland White Ledge boots for over 4 years which have identical bottom and I loved them. For my replacement boots I decided to move up to the next model in the line, the Chicorua, because of the slightly taller support around the ankle and the Gore-Tex membrane which makes them more breathable. My first test was a 4 mile mountain hike over rocky terrain and they felt grea...t without any previous break-in period. Also, the price at Sunny Sports [...] was just unbeatable.Tip 1: As soon as you get these boots rub the leather with some mink oil and repeat a few times year. This will keep them waterproof and insure the leather doesn't dry or crack and will extend their useful life. I did this with my last pair of Timberlines and the leather still looks great after over 4 yearsTip 2: For serious hikes do not use cheap cotton socks. Instead either use wool socks in winter or Hiking Socks. Hiking socks, like Thorlo are expensive but well worth it because they not only wick away moisture, which cotton does not, but also and provides much better cushioning to reduce shear and impact forces so your feet feel great and minimizes the potential for blisters. The weak link of a good boot is the socks - it took me years to realize this.
Timberland Chocorua Trail Mid with Timber Dry Hiking Shoes for Men The Timberland Chocorua Trail Mid with Timber Dry Hiking Shoes for Men is ready for hiking on any rugged terrain. Its BSFP motion efficiency system and active rubber lug outsole gives you better traction to keep you from slipping. It reduces the pressure in every braking, supporting, flexing, and propelling for greater stability and movement. These shoes also keep your feet dry and comfortable. While the waterproof and breathable Timber-Dry membrane shields water out and allows vapor from sweat to pass through, the combination of the padded collar, padded tongue, and the removable dual-density EVA footbed cushions your feet. And for a customizable fit, you can simply adjust its lacing system. So whether you're ascending or descending on a steep slope or simply trekking in the wilderness, these shoes are definitely the pair of footwear to choose. Order the Timberland Chocorua Trail Mid with Timber Dry Hiking Shoes for Men now.

The original version is gore tex, every pair I have purchased is gore tex. I have heard the design was changed and the membrane is no longer gore tex in the latest version, but on those boots, I believe the badge on the boot says waterproof as opposed to gore tex.

I have owned many pairs of Chocorua boots, going back years. In the past, they were Gore-Tex and had that small metal plate embedded in the boot. I was unpleasantly surprised that while they still look and fit the same, my latest pair is now "Timber-Dry", not Gore-Tex. It seems to be a cost-cutting move. However, I cannot yet say they are less waterproof. In a separate issue, I did wear out the heels on my latest pair a lot faster than before.

Fairly light I had 5 pairs. All soles wore out rather quickly I am on concrete and pavement most of the day and these were my daily wear. I got about 12 weeks out of each pair. I switched to Hi-Tec Altitude V Basicly exact style boot, a little lighter but much more comfortable
