Comments about Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Mattress:

I do a reasonable amount of back country hiking with a small amount of climbing involved Typically there are well appointed tramping huts to stay the night in so I will usually take my Z Rest Short in case for some reason there are not enough bunks available in the hut or if I have to bivouac in an emergency. Some huts are very popular and only on a first come first served basis so then I carry my NeoAir XLite or if I'm off trail and using my own shelter. I have owned a number of thermarest products in the past and they have let me down. Too heavy, balky and very hard to repair in the field when punctured. So I had low expectations for my NeoAir and was pleasently surprised. I found it very comfortable and gave good back support depending how much air you put in. The non slip helps although I normally sleep on a liner. The first few times it rustled a lot when you turned over but either I am used to that or it no longer rustles (must be the accumulation of all that moist air I have blown into it!) I found the Regular size at 20 inches wide just wide enough for my huge 250lb frame and 5'11 hight. It packs surprisingly well and is easy to keep clean. If I bought another I would buy a Small because a lot of hight is not needed. If I was using it only for camping I would probably enjoy the extra 5 inch width of the large but all of these mattress's are a bit on the heavy side compared to my small Z Rest and even the regular Z Rest. I once slept out on a mountainside with snow all around and my ereader froze inside my pack yet I was warm and comfortable so in extreme conditions so long as you don't puncture it I recommend this product,

    Questions about this item:

Terry W  I see this comes in 3 sizes. Is that based upon height or weight? I'm 5'10" & weigh 245 lbs. Thinking about getting the large, but wonder if the regular will do. Also, what is the packing weight differential for the 2 larger sizes?
JAMES D  Get the large. These are not ultra wide pads. It takes a couple of nights to get used to the lack of padding. I don't know the weight.
Shopper  is it self inflating ?
JOHN M  No, you have to blow it up, other than that it works great.
