I have tried about 5 different expensive brands of heavyweight wool socks, like carhartt, Red wing, wigwam. All the heavyweight wool socks I have tried are very nice but these Smartwools are just a bitt better. These smartwools seem al little better constructed and are a little softer and a little less itchy than the other brands. But these smartwool do cost a little more than the other brands, but if you can find them on sale then go with the smartwool.
