Petzl Ascension Ascender
The reason that the Petzl Ascension Ascender is the most popular ascender for big wall climbers is its ergonomically shaped grip, it is over molded with rubber for greater friction and the broader surface provides greater comfort while pulling on the ascender in wet and icy conditions, the grip is wider at the bottom providing better comfort for your hand during use. This new shape keeps your hand from sliding to the bottom of the frame each time you pull on the Ascension. The chrome-plated steel cam with angled teeth and self-cleaning slot securely grips the rope, even in muddy or icy conditions. The trigger to open/close the cam is now recessed inside the frame to avoid accidentally opening the cam while in use. The geometry of the single Mono-frame ensures optimal handle orientation when the device is loaded and will maintain solid, comfortable performance even after years of use.

Comments about Petzl Ascension Ascender:
Slides up really easily, always grabs when you load. . . really seems bullet proof. I was torn between the Petzl Ascension and the BD nForce. I have never tried the BD, but the Petzl is a simpler, lighter design. Also, for a full size ascender, the Petzl is hardly any more expensive and not much heavier than a mini ascender. Tons of rescue/self-rescue/hauling uses besides just straight ascending. I'll likely keep a mini ascender and/or a prussic on my harness. But the full size petzl will always be in the bag.
