Does this jacket repel water? Yes, its supposed to, but does it?
Yes, very much so. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years and the DWR ("durable water-repellent") exterior treatment is still holding up save a few small spots around the cuffs and other wear points. I must stress these are SMALL spots and the jacket still breaths really well. Of corse even if the DWR was completely warn off it would still keep you completely dry.
They say no rain gear will keep you completely dry for long in a serious downpoor. I beg to differ. I don't know how this jacket does it, but it does! This was illustrated to me when a 350-mile, one-day trip yielded ten hours of torture on two wheels. My motorcycle trip from Northern California to the Oregon coast involved rain, sleet and/or hail nearly the entire time... Strangely there was no snow. Anyway, it was mostly rain and I somehow, again after TEN HOURS of riding what amounts to nothing more than a dirtbike with turn signals, I came out of it COMPLETELY dry with the exception of my wrists and forearms(I would have had to glue the jacket to my wrists to do any better). It still amazes me and I'm very picky about my gear's performance. I cannot ask for anything more from this one!
It does, very well in fact. I have been happy with mine.
Repels wafer like a champ. I owned a rain jacket from ll bean before this and can safely say I will never go back. Been riding my bike Ina downpour and stayed bone dry. Just make sure to shake the jacket off before bringing inside or it will drip off the outside onto the floor. This is a great jacket! I am 5'11" 165lbs and got a medium. Probably should have got a large if I could go back. Hope this helps!
Yes it does. This is the first "water proof" jacket I've bought, as opposed to water resistant, and it definitely repels water. If you've worn any heavy helly hansen jackets, they repel water but don't breath at all. You can still work up a sweat if you're working in it, but it is noticeably easier to stay cool with this jacket since there is air flow. Same goes for the pants. They're pricey, in my opinion, but worth the cost, and work well. I've had them about 2 years and no real wear to speak of.
Happy to answer any other questions.
