I'm trying to decide on a size. I usually wear a size small but am finding some brands are too big and then i need an xsmall. Is Patagonia more fitted like Spyder brand or like, say L.L.Bean?
I bought these jackets for my daughters. According to both daughters (age 18 & 26), these Patagonia Down Sweater Jackets sizing are to true to size. One takes an X-Small and the other takes a Small. Both jackets fitted them perfectly; in length, sleeves, fully zippered, and in the neck & in arm pit area. If the smaller daughter (extra small size) worn the Small sized jacket, it would be too big.
I'm 5'6" and weigh 125 pounds. I usually wear a size 6 in clothing. In jackets I wear a small (and often a medium in Patagonia rainjackets). I got the small down sweater and I found it to be too baggy (especially around the arms) so I exchanged it for an extra small. I can still wear it with a t shirt and thin sweater underneath and it's comfortable. Hope this helps!
My jacket fit a little small, so I went with the next size up. Great jacket!
I usually order a medium in Patagonia because they run a little short so it is a little loose, but I really like my Patagonia jackets. A small will fit, but I like a little extra room to wear a sweater under it. I also order a medium in North Face too, which their jackets are a little more fitted.
I wear a medium and I thought it was a little snug thru the waist area as there is not much room to wear an extra sweater underneath. Overall, I really enjoy this "sweater"!
I am 5'2" 115 and I have small it's perfect!
I would stay with the small, this garment seems to run true to size. It's nicely tapered and fitted.Down garments generally need to fit comfortably in order to allow the down to loft and insulate properly.I would compare the fit to a spyder garment.Absolutely love this item, and would recommend purchase.
This is a great jacket and I highly recommend it. Size wise, it is designed to fit tight - as a sweatter. It is also not very long. If you buy a size larger, it will still fit well and you'll be able to wear a sweater underneath it. This way, you'll also have a bit longer jacket which I think is nice. I wear meadium but I opted to get a large and am super happy with it. I always get compliments wearing it. If in doubt, you can order two sizes and return the one you do not like.
I am not familiar with the other brands listed and their fits but this Patagonia was true to size. I have very long arms and usually wear a small with most brands not having sleeves long enough. However, this sweater was perfect.
I don't know specifically about those brands but I do know that I am relatively small (5' 2" 110 lbs) - definitely short waisted, but I do have a bust (34C. The xs fits very well and the small fits slightly looser with more room for layers but the arms are just a tad long for me. I've owned an xs for years and my next purchase will be a small.
I am a solid Medium but I got this jacket in a small and it fits perfectly. The small is really a medium.

i feel as if Patagonia fit more on the slimmer, true to fit size. LL BEAN has that American sized mediums... Spyder would be a better reference in size than LL BEAN for sure.
