what is the temperature range ? How cold can it get & this coat still keep me comfortable?
JOSEPH S This is always a tough question. The coat is a good insulator but doesn't have the "instant warmth" of down (keep in mind I am a "cold blooded" person). So, in 30 degrees, I'd have on two shirts and a heavier sweater jacket for indoors, and I'd wear this over it with some gloves?it is too roomy to wear over a tee shirt or thin layers in cold weather and not feel a draft (it is clearly designed as an outer layer and is not as fitted as Patagonia's mid-layers like down sweaters and fleece). It is lighter than my thick 600 down sweater, but it has better coverage, so it is better for slower walks around the city in windy or cold weather. I like mine quite a bit, as the sleeves are well insulated and it covers my butt, which, for a cold person with cold hands, keeps me warm without the rest of my body overheating. I haven't tried it in the 20s yet, but I'm sure it would make do for active walks with the right hat and gloves. It is NOT NOT NOT a heavy-duty ice parka, but a classy one for sea-level or woodsy endeavors.
RICHARD G I live in NYC and last year was a brutal winter and I was fine with it and a fleece.
