Comments about Patagonia Adze Jacket for Women:

I wanted to like this jacket for its features and good price. Unfortunately there were some things about the cut that didn't work for me. For starters the jacket was snug in the hips but too roomy in the shoulders. The wide bottom band on the jacket had a tendency to bias and wrinkle too. If you like very long sleeves that can only be kept off your hands by adjusting the Velcro you will be okay with the sleeves. I don't want them longer than covering my entire wrist area. The bonded lining felt a bit rubbery to me too and overall I'm tired of jackets that scream polyester.

Comments about Patagonia Adze Jacket for Women:

I was looking for a good beater jacket for outdoor climbing in the fall. I've heard good things about the men's Adze from my husband who happens to have the hoodie version. The material is sturdy, light, wind proof and water resistant/repellant (with dwr finish) and the colors are pretty. I was sold on the idea before I actually got the jacket.

I had the chance to try it on before ordering and my initial impression was that it was a tad bit too big. I am 5"3ish, 108lbs with an athletic built and I fit in most XS. In fact, I own a nice patagonia piolet jacket that fits me perfectly so it was a surprise when the Adze felt big. The length is just right as the arm length-- most reviews say that the arms are too long but they are just right for me. My complaint is with how roomy the upper arms and biceps were. Even with thick layering pieces they still felt big and roomy. The back and upper torso also felt wide as if designed for a man's fit. The whole jacket felt large, boxy and unflattering for a woman's fit. I understand that some may want the option to layer underneath this piece but even with layers it still feels too big.

I still decided to purchase this jacket knowing that it is a tad big because form trumps function in this case, and it also suited my needs perfectly. The fit is its only flaw. The construction of the Adze is really nice. The stitching is clean and solid. The materials feel high quality--hello Polartec, Windbloc and DWR!--it is well made and does what it claims and more. I've climbed in this jacket a handful of times in the cool shade of the Colorado front range in the fall and it does well in keeping me warm. I've also bike commuted in it in light rain and it did well in keeping me dry. I doubt it will be suited to a deluge but it will do well at keeping you dry with light rain or snow.

If you are looking for a good beater piece that will work for your active (climbing, biking, hiking, etc.) pursuits in the colder months and are not concerned about showing off your figure--then get this jacket! It does what it claims to do and will surely serve you well for the long haul!

My only regret is I did not order the hoodie!!!
