Comments about MSR Platypus GravityWorks Water Filter + Purifier:

The Gravity Works water filter is the easiest way to purify water for cooking and drinking. Can easily filter gallons of water in minutes. It just doesn't get any easier. No need to worry about batteries or boiling. So far gravity has been reliable as long as I can remember. I highly recommend.

Comments about MSR Platypus GravityWorks Water Filter + Purifier:

Excellent to use with group of Boy scouts; it filters while you do other tasks. Light weight and easy to use. I use a nylon to filter large particles while filling. Make sure to purge the air on initial filtering and clean the filter when done. Best use is when you are at your camp. I like having the "clean" bag to let it filter into rather than constantly monitor the container it is filling while filtering.

My first use of it was on a high water run off year with a lot of silt in the water. The filter worked surpurbly, especially when other filters would have plugged rather fast. I do prefer the blue filters to the newer white and blue ones, I have had better filtering longevity with them.

Worked like a charm in Sierra Nevada

Comments about MSR Platypus GravityWorks Water Filter + Purifier:

I don't like pumping water and I don't like mosquito's. The Platypus allows you to take the water and walk away from (most of the) mosquito's and filter your water in peace. Since you don't have to pump, you can make camp while gravity is doing the work for you. I've used it for almost 3 weeks in the Sierra Nevada and it worked perfectly. People were mooching water off of me because they were fed up cranking their filters! It's important to back flush every time you set the system up, because trapped air bubbles slow the filter down. I left the 'clean bag' home and connected the system directly to my 2.0 liter hoser which actually fits my backpack's hydration sleeve. Great purchase!

        Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
TIM S  Ease of use for a group camping/water filtering. Light weight. Can filter water while doing other things; can have a near constant water filtering going on with little effort.
Kurt M  Is this the 2 liter or 4 liter model?
WILLIAM F  I believe this is a 2 L model. It filtered our water (mostly from very small creeks) quickly. The filtered water was cold clean and very refreshing.
Shopper  How long does the filter last in quarts or gallons? How often does it need to be replaced? If it can be replaced, can I buy just the filter and how much would that be?
