Well made but difficult to use

By

I really wanted this to be the bag for my upcoming trip. It's well made, has neat features like the mesh enclosure. But for a first time bivy-user, this bag seems too difficult to get in and out of. I just keep imagining scenarios where in the middle of the night trying to wriggle free (and wriggle back in) when nature inevitably calls. I finally decided on one that has far fewer frills but unzips along a side and weighs half as much.

TNF Assult Bivy -no zipper

By

Light and roomy are high points. Entry is difficult. I will keep it as extra protection for tarping. I like the wide design to fit pads that are rectangular. Think a half zipper would have increased the utility.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

Shopper  Does it keep wind out?
Diana K  Yes. You can fully close it to keep water out so it would be ideal for wind as well.
Shopper  How tough is bottom, how protective for sleeping pad?
Scott B  The bottom is heavier nylon, waterproofed, like the floor of a tent. To protect my bag I always use my pad on the outside, unless I'm sleeping on the snow.
EDWARD V  I've used this in the rain on the Appalachian Trail. The bottom is durable, but the top is definitely NOT waterproof. I had moisture seeping in heavily. Should have setup a tarp above me the night before. Better suited for colder, alpine conditions with snow rather than rain. Good luck.
Mitch K  What size does it pack down to?
Diana K  Stuffed Sack Size: 6" x 12" (15.2cm x 3.5 cm)
