Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak II Convertible Pants for Men:

These pants were a top ten outdoor hiking/climbing pant in a magazine article I read. I chose them as an alternative light weight motorcycle pant because they are one of the few NYLON ripstop pants on the market. Nylon ripstop has better abrasion resistance than polyester ripstop which is why these are so well rated. I have tailored them with interior armor pockets so I have great looking, light weight armored riding pants that convert into shorts when I get where I am going. Win win!

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak II Convertible Pants for Men:

Having already owned Paramount Peak 1 pants in XXL which never quite fit right, this newer models seems to have gotten some of the kinks out. Im 5'10 between 235-265 depending on if im in-season or off-season with training. My pants sizes usually range from 38-41 inches, just on the verge of XL when i'm slimmer so i'll usually just order XXL and have slightly baggy pants when i'm leaner.

The paramount 1's fit everywhere except the thigh/crotch they seemed to pinch when kneeling or climbing The paramount 2's Have improved roominess in the legs and allows me full range of motion in athletic activities. The waist is just a tad loose but easily corrected by cinchinhg the belt. I'm glad i didnt have to get 3XL just to make room for my quads.

the Pocket layout is much better as well the cargos are no on the front of thigh like older model, which chaffes when items are in the pockets and reduces capacity. These pokets are now located at 3 and 9 oclock and have a a nice taper that keep them discreet without an overtly military look.

One suggestion i could make is the front hand pockets should have a vertical drop-taper similar to a pair of dockers/slacks instead of the horizontal squared off design they have now. Makes access easier.

Used on a 5 hour kayak trip they repel moisture well and dry fast even after a dunk. only downside to 100% nylon is they wont hold up well to flames around a camp fire so beware of sparks and embers poking wholes. Otherwise great convertible pants

    Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
rebecca r  This will be the 3rd, 4th & 5th pair of paramount peak pants I have owned. Good fit, fabric, durability.
Shopper  Is there elastic in the waist of this paramount pant?
Gerald H  Yes there is elastic. The belt is attached and is adjustable. They were true to my normal size (34). Also, be aware, the supposedly durable Nylon material does not last / wear well. I returned my first (2) pairs to the North Face because the material pilled / balled up in the crotch / seat area after only 6-7 wearings. The North Face replaced them and guess what, the second pair has the same exact issue in the same location after 2-3 wearings. I do not put them in a dryer and my washer is a front loader. Too bad really, the pants are a great fit otherwise, but my next pairs will be the Gander Mountain Guide Series, it is too frustrating to deal with these issues and the pants become uncomfortable the more the pilling builds up.
