This jacket has been perfect for keeping warm in 30*-50* weather. Above 50*, in the sun, it may become a little too warm. It's definitely heavier weight overall then I expect, but not so much that it is bulky. You can feel a little wind going through it when it's above 15mph, but by the time it hits your skin it's been warmed up enough to not send a chill through you. I'm in shape at 5'11 185lbs and a L fits just fine if not a tad big. I wouldn't move down to a M though unless you want i...t super tight.

My old Denali can take on a decent rain shower without an issue, is this the same? Is it warmer or the same?

No. The North Face does make a Denali 2 with a hood but it is described as Denali 2 Hoodie.

No. Jacket does not come with a hood. Collar does zip pretty high up so neck is well protected. Overall, a great jacket that does a supper job of keeping the elements out.
