Comments about Mountainsmith Tour Lumbar Pack:

We use our Mountainsmith for everything! From short day hikes to carry-on travel bags for the plane, the bags are lightweight, comfortable, easy to access, and very well built. This is my second bag from mountain smith, my first I used for 4 years through college, lost it at some point and liked it so much I had to buy another. Highly recommend!

Comments about Mountainsmith Tour Lumbar Pack:

I've owned this identical pack (in red) since 2005. It has seen many hundreds of hiking miles, and thousands of motorcycle touring miles, and is as solid and functional as the day I bought it, even after going off the back of the bike at speed full of gear once (my loading error).

I love this bag, and just came here to buy another (Cobalt Blue) for use as field bag for R/C flying so I don't have to keep unloading the R/C gear when I go hiking. I was very happy to see this exact design is still available, unchanged, after all these years - a testament to the fact that they got it right the first time.

I've found the number and layout of the pockets to be very functional and versatile - just enough to help you organize things without making individual pockets so small that you can't fit large items easily. It always feels like it's just the right size no matter how much or little I'm carrying.

And this thing is super-durable; zippers, seams, bungee cords and fabric are pretty much good as new except for slightly faster than expected fading of the color - but red is prone to that, and this one's 7 years old, and has seen a lot of sun, rain and a few trips through the washing machine.

Suffice it to say I highly recommend this fanny pack!

Comments about Mountainsmith Tour Lumbar Pack:

I use this bag to carry around books of novel size and slightly larger. It will also be great when hiking season comes around and I want to go for a half-day hike. Big enough to carry a few books and light weight jacket plus water, trail mix, small first aid kit etc.

Comments about Mountainsmith Tour Lumbar Pack:

I bought and promptly returned competing products from Overstock and REI, this one is fantastic. The others had no visable defects but would unbuckle with large steps up boulders or bending over.
This is an excellent product with huge capacity, lots of pockets to store things and the (2) pockets for water bottles.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

          Questions about this item:

Shopper  Why Did You Choose This?
TERRY T  A more perfect lumbar pack has yet to come along. I did accessorize it with a small belt pouch to stow chapstik and hard candies and the Strappette Shoulder Harness. It's my go-to daypack.
Shopper  How big of a waist can it fit? 48 waist
SUSAN K D  I have mine adjusted for a 34" waist and Have enough spare belt to expand it at least another 10 or so inches. I got mine in 2009 and I am still using it and it is holding up wonderfully!
Shopper  Can it fit an iPad?
TERRY T  While not designed to carry one, I just confirmed that an iPad will indeed fit inside the main compartment of the MS Tour. It's a slightly snug fit (I've got my iPad in a Targus folio cover/stand) but it will fit and still allow additional items to be stowed in that compartment. Because of the iPad's weight, I highly recommend using the MS Strapettes to help balance the load on your back. I am a big fan of my Tour and have placed many miles on that thing. It's a great day hike bag, keeping in mind how much water you'll want to carry for a particular hike. For all day affairs, I'll use my Camelbak day pack that allows me to carry in excess of 3 liters of water. But again, the Tour is my go-to pack most of the time for day hikes.
