Replacement poles

I have loved this tent for a long time but I had one pole break and called customer service to get a replacement and it was going to be almost $50 for the 8ft replacement pole. That's is expensive to me.

I usually throw my bag out on a sleeping pad on the ground or on the snow, without using a tent. However, when the weather turns foul I do appreciate staying dry and being able to keep my gear dry. Tarps will do OK in a pinch, but there's nothing like a real, weather-tight tent when it gets bad. Right out of the bag, my 11 year old son put this tent up in three minutes (including fly), by himself. After setting it up a few times, he got even quicker. It comes down equally quickly. The color coded clips and buckles are virtually impossible to mess up, even in the dark. This is a free standing tent that only needs the two rainfly vestibules staked out. The waterproofing has a much higher rating than comparable tents. Taped seams and a bathtub floor are excellent. Alot of thought went into this tent and it shows. The double doors and double vestibules are very nice when sleeping two people (although the vestibules are not quite as big as they look in the pictures). Without the fly, the tent is almost all screen...alot of ventilation! Zippers are super smooth, the guy lines are reflective, lightweight aluminum poles won't pop out of the grommets during assembly, all tent to pole attachments are with clips (NO sleeves!). Good head room, enough room for two for sleeping, or one with all your gear. It is also light enough to be carried as a backpacking tent. Although I have not had this out in high wind yet, I feel very confident that once guyed-out, it will be very sturdy and remain completely weather tight. A friend of mine bought the Mountainsmith Genesee (a four-man version of this tent). It was only a little more money, only about one pound heavier, and just a shade larger when packed. If you are more comfort driven and will use the tent for 2 people on a regular basis, then I would recommend going for the Genesee 4 (the vestibules on the Genesee are also much larger). Good quality, light weight, super fast and simple to put up, alot of nice features, water tight and alot of ventilation. A great tent!
