Dumps heat fast when you're working hard climbing up a trail. Lightweight and blocks wind - good as a windshirt and with layers a great softshell. For weather below 30 degrees, you might want a fleece wicking inside fabric surface like a standard softshell for a bit more warmth.

I would recommend this soft-shell for sure. I live in Alaska and spend most of my free time hiking, bought this piece for cold weather hikes for this winter season. I throw a merino wool baselayer underneath and put this jacket/hoody on and I'm all set! I'm not Trail Running but I'm moving and it does everything I need and looks good too. I'm all about the pit vents...they work great as well. I've only had it for a couple of months but I've probably trekked 100 miles so far and have had no issues! Good product.
