I can wear it over a t-shirt, or layer under it. I’d recommend you try a US medium, especially if you want to layer under it. A small might work if you like to wear jackets that are very snug. Thank youJOHN M : i am a typical athletic male 5'8", 38" chest (im in usa), i normally fit M, or get a L to fit roomy or over other layers. my ambler is a US "L" ("jpn XL")- label does not differentiate for eu. it is HUGE! i can wear every item i own under it and it is still too large. the sizing is already made oversize to fit over layersLeonardo L : Ciao from Chile... got this jacket in M... it's pretty tight which is good since air below the jacket means cold. It's very good for cold, but in my case, M size, I need to use just a thin baselayer below to feel good. I don't think you need much more clothes beneath. Just a layer-1 and maybe a thin layer-2 and you're good to go... if you want to use more clothes underneath, buy a size bigger, but of course, arms will be longer, waist will be longer, etc. Anyway with this jacket you don't need much clothes next-to-skin... it's so warm! It's the best winter parka I've ever owned.Timothy Z : Hello I have this amazing jacket as I live in Minneapolis and it’s frixkin cold here. The jacket fits perfect to size. I am 5’8” and 160 pounds and I wear a medium and purchased a medium. So I’d say order to your typical size and it will fit perfectly, however if you want something slightly larger go to a large US. Great coat!
KEVIN R : are the arms gusseted?DIANA K : The jacket is not gusseted, there isn't is a moisture wicking ventilated material in the armpit, but the fabric is sewn in such a way that it allows you to move your arms more freely and is less restricted.

Great construction

I haven't tried the Ambler yet, but have the Broad Peak and the Ambler Pro as well. The Ambler appears to be as well made as the other two and falls in between the other two in fill weight. The Pro is my go to cold weather jacket (below -10F) and the Broad Peak works well under a shell in most of the NE. I bought the Ambler for the 5F to -15F temps and as a safety coat to sit in the back of my truck with the Pro when I drive to Canada.

Great Jacket.

Well made. Could be just a bit warmer., But I am an outlier in wanting to be very warm. Highly recommend this jacket. As with all Mammut jackets it is one if the top choices available.

Great jacket

My son chose this jacket for Christmas. He loves it! He says it's super warm and having a hood it keeps his neck warm and blocks the cold air from going down his neck. This is the second Mammut jacket he has had - the first one he grew out of. Now his girlfriend wears it on very cold Colorado days.

Good jacket, sizing is on a small side

I got this jacket as a replacement to the other Mammut jacket(Mammut Broad Peak IS Hooded Jacket ) I ordered first. It seems much warmer even if it has the same dawn rating. I guess it needs more general substance to be warmer unless it has heating element built in(it's warm enough outside now to really test it). The original reason to return was the size as I got Medium according to the size chart provided. It was a bit tight at the bottom. I ordered size L for the Ambler and was a bit afraid that it would be too big since it's for waist 34+ and I'm 5'6", 145 lb, 31" waist male. It wasn't, I would call it as a fitted for me. All these reviews mentioning Mammut sizing on a smaller side were right. Unless you have a stick like figure you should go one size up comparing to the jackets from Columbia, North Face, etc.

super warm, high quality jacket

Excellent high loft down jacket. A note about Mammut sizing..I ordinarily wear large but always wear XL in this brand.

Warm jacket - nice fit

Very cool down jacket. Only one comment - the blue part on the jacket is not blue, but grey - totally okay with me though.

Super warm and extremely light

This jacket is great for tall and slim builds. Absolutely the warmest jacket I've ever owned and super light weight. The high collar is great for keeping your face warm in windy conditions.
