super warm, high quality jacket

Excellent high loft down jacket. A note about Mammut sizing..I ordinarily wear large but always wear XL in this brand.

Great jacket

By

My son chose this jacket for Christmas. He loves it! He says it's super warm and having a hood it keeps his neck warm and blocks the cold air from going down his neck. This is the second Mammut jacket he has had - the first one he grew out of. Now his girlfriend wears it on very cold Colorado days.

Good jacket, sizing is on a small side

By

I got this jacket as a replacement to the other Mammut jacket(Mammut Broad Peak IS Hooded Jacket ) I ordered first. It seems much warmer even if it has the same dawn rating. I guess it needs more general substance to be warmer unless it has heating element built in(it's warm enough outside now to really test it). The original reason to return was the size as I got Medium according to the size chart provided. It was a bit tight at the bottom. I ordered size L for the Ambler and was a bit afraid that it would be too big since it's for waist 34+ and I'm 5'6", 145 lb, 31" waist male. It wasn't, I would call it as a fitted for me. All these reviews mentioning Mammut sizing on a smaller side were right. Unless you have a stick like figure you should go one size up comparing to the jackets from Columbia, North Face, etc.

Warm jacket - nice fit

Very cool down jacket. Only one comment - the blue part on the jacket is not blue, but grey - totally okay with me though.

Questions & Answers Powered by TurnTo®

Questions about this item:

KPRal K  are the arms gusseted?
Diana K  The jacket is not gusseted, there isn't is a moisture wicking ventilated material in the armpit, but the fabric is sewn in such a way that it allows you to move your arms more freely and is less restricted.
KPRal K  I think, and hope you are wrong...because I want to purchase it. The gusseted area is the wrist area. Please check.
Diana K  The gusseted area is most often by the armpit and can run down along the sleeve. This jacket is not gusseted, but is sewn in a way to avoid restriction in movement.
KPRal K  Ok, fair enough. I am mis-using the term gusseted. What I am trying to get at is this...within the sleeves, to the 'end' of the sleeves, there is an 'inner' sleeve that keeps cold air from drafting up and into the arm. Does style have it? I ask, because I was at a retail store that sells this item and the jacket(with the same style description) does have this feature. Thanks for your replies.
Diana K  Oh I see! According to the manufacturer, at the end of the sleeve there is a hand gaiter with a velcro closure to keep out any cold air.
KPRal K  Hi Diana...Kevin again. This afternoon I placed on order for this coat online...and now I am worried. I see no type of reply from Sunnysports at all. I am a bit concerned about this...having given all of my credit card info and such. Can you check this?
Diana K  Hi Kevin! Please give us a call, our customer service number is at the top right of the home page. We will definitely help you with your order and see what is going on. Please do not provide any private information through here.
Larry H  I'm looking for a warm and highly abrasion resistant down jacket for hiking on wooded mtn. trails - I don't see what the fabric denier of the jacket is - do you have that information?
JONATHAN G  This jacket is definitely not made for hiking. If you buy it for that purpose you will rip it to shreds. It's made for belaying while ice climbing, mountaineering and winter rock climbing. It's perfect for that purpose and sitting around a camp fire
HEIDI M  While I'm not sure what the specific fabric is, the arms are thicker material that would hold up to brushing against a branch. That being said, I bought this for my husband who sometimes has to stand outside for a half hour at a time in negative weather. This jacket is SO intensely insulated that he can't wear it, even in -10F. It makes him start to sweat, it's so hot. I think this would be way too hot for hiking, but that is just my opinion.
