Mountain Hardwear Shifter 3 Tent

I have only used this tent 1 night so far but look forward to many more. We took our kids (12, 10, 7) on their first backpacking trip (Just 1 night). Although this is a 3 person tent, we fit 4 snug but comfortable. My son and I are both 5 ft. 3 in. and my 2 daughters are shorter. My husband prefers to sleep on a tarp outside. I purposely searched out a tent that was more "square" in the dimensions, so we would be able to do this. Features I loved were the dual vestibles, gear loft, and solid door - both for warmth and privacy(so you don't always have to close the rainfly) when camping with a group. Rear vestible is very spacious! Can't wait to use this tent again although I realize with the kids growing, eventually only 3 of us will fit.

Bought this 3 person backpacking tent for 2 people to use car camping because backpacking tents are made better than most traditional car camping tents. We also wanted a lower ceiling to help with warmth during shoulder seasons. LOVE the pockets and gear loft. The two different sides worked well for us - the solid side for the always cold wife and the net side for the husband. No leaks but we have not used it during a deluge or famous southwest spring wind yet. Fitting 3 people in this tent would be tight but it's fine for two average size adults. Adding a small child would probably work fine too. Vestibules have plenty of room to protect gear from rain.

I have not had a chance to use the Shifter 3 tent but own a 2 person M.H. tent and I am very pleased with it. M.H. tents are tested under extreme moisture conditions. I have full confidence this tent will be of equal quality to the one that has kept me dry in the wilderness for several years.
