How does this compare to the Thermostatic in terms of thickness? I know this is down while the other is synthetic. Does anyone know how much fill is in this?
I love the this jacket. It is 800 down fill and class as a down sweater. The warmth from this jacket is enough that I don't a shell, unless it rain, it is awesome with anything over it. It is very light and compact which stuffs into it's own pocket for traveling. Also very compact for day or long backpacking trips. The material is top notch as always from Mt. Hardware. Can not go wrong with is jacket. I bought two of these jackets from Sunnysports. One is acid green and the other is black at special sale prices. I hope this information helps. Go for it buddy.
I purchased this for my husband and all I know is this (from my husband):
It is very light in tems of the weight of the jacket but it keeps you warm - yet is not the warmest of Marmot down jackets.
He has worn it in sub-zero temperature in the Winter and it has kept him warm enough. He has worn it for two winters already and the down has held up well.
Hope this helps
The nitrous is not a very puffy jacket. It wears comfortably as a soft shell with a hard shell over it. Be aware, the down feathers do sometimes poke out of the jacket.
Well, I don't know the exact amount, but I don't think it's enough. When you hold it up to the light, you see gaps in the down. Perhaps that's normal, and it's true that the coat is warm enough for me, but it does not feel as "puffy" or "filled" as I expected. I still love my fragile jacket, but I realize that I paid an awful lot of money for a product that I still (2 years later) don't feel was worth the money. It's not durable and has several holes just from everyday work/city wear (nothing like mountain adventure or the hard wear that can come from camping, fishing, etc.). Of course, it appears that it's also half the price now that I paid. I learned my lesson.
Not exactly sure on the Fill amount or count but it's kind of thin and ultra light and very packable. It's very warm. I also have a marmot 850 fill and it has to be extremely cold to wear it . I like the mountain hardware for layering it's not bulky . Fits true . Hope this helped !
I believe this is 800 fill - I did have but returned a thermostatic once and the Nitrous (in my opinion) is by far the better quality and warmer piece. For its weight and compressibility - and lightness, the Nitrous is very warm - I wore it instead of my heavier down layer piece even on frigid days - with a shell over it. Hope this helps!!
