Bite valve is a must, just discovered they made these covers. Perfect since I didn't like the mouth piece touching everything. I will say it is kind of difficult to put it on but once on it works great.

Perfect cover for my mouthpiece! I have the Octane 10 (love it) and i wish I didnt have to order this separately, but it was cheap, shipped fast and works well.

Someone at Camelbak specifically said this BigBite cover would replace the 20-y-o cover I lost for an insulated Camelbak. Well, it's better than nothing but doesn't fit as well or insulate like old one. I wasn't warned about that -- probably staff didn't realize. There are so many issues with Camelbak online. 1) for this review, 5 stars was the default answer or rating to give to the review. After 1/4 century reviewing stuff online, I've never seen that before. 2) Online, in ratings of products, best reviews are shown first. Bad reviews are toward the end. I complained, staff replied but didn't offer an answer for this. No way to change ratings to most recent, which is what I prefer.(Also never seen that before during 25 years of online shopping). Pretty bad IMO. 3) I had to contact Camelbak to even find the BigByte cover. Just couldn't find anything like that on their site. 4) As of 2 weeks ago, site didn't give returns policy for buying things on their site. Just said "contact merchant you bought from". This was on a site selling their gear!!!! Wow, buyer beware. My opinion of Camelbak the company has gone way down since experiencing their site, and with this form they sent me today with default answer of 5 stars. They seem to have no confidence in their products, so rig the system to make it look better than is.

I recently retro-fitted a tiny toddler backpack into a camelbak pack for my 3 year old son, who is so excited to carry his own water on our short hikes. His bite valve was getting pretty gross from dragging in the dirt as he stopped to investigate EVERYTHING along our path. I bought this valve cover in hopes it might help. It has been amazing! It works great at keeping the dirt off the valve. My son can easily open and close it on his own, and he loves the added gadget to his pack.

Tricky to get the cover on the bite piece, which means it will be a pain every time we reassemble after washing it.

Keeps dirt and dust off your bite valve when mountain biking. Easy to open and close one handed once you get used to it.

It should be included with every camelbak, you really need to drink without mud.... Very hard to install, took me a couple of minutes. Finally I put it in water and then it succeeded.

This is pretty much an essential component, if you don't want to be eating dirt when you take a drink. It works, and it's *way* better than what we all used to do before there were such things -- remember when we tied snack bags around the tube with a rubber band? However, the last time I got a Camelbak, the valve cover came preinstalled -- but not this time. I did locate and watch the instruction video, and even so, it wasn't easy to get on (although I did manage eventually). I'm looking forward to the day when this essential component once again comes fitted on the tube, when you buy the bag.

I read countless reviews stating how difficult this was to install onto their Camelbak, so I was very very hesitant to buy it. It wasn't until I read ONE Amazon review that posted a picture of it properly installed, stating it wasn't too difficult to put on. That is when I decided to purchase two (one for myself and a friend. I literally just followed the simple 4 step pictured directions and bam, I was done within a few minutes! My friend said she installed it within 1 minute. I put mine on the Camelbak Crux 3L, and my friend put hers on her Camelbak Antidote 3L. If it wasn't for that Amazon review with the photograph, I don't think I would have purchased it because someone on the reviews here posted a review saying that this doesn't properly fit the new Crux and they posted a picture with it too. If you take a look at that person's picture (their username is "Hiker") they placed the bottom half on the wrong place. They placed it below the grey lock mechanism, it needs to be placed ABOVE it so it can lock shut when you close it. Because of that, I am posting two photos of it properly installed along with my review, one with the cover lifted and the other with it closed. It works perfectly as it should, however, I am disappointed that this isn't automatically part of the Camelbaks. Hopefully their future Camelbak products will include it with each purchase! Honestly, get this, you won't regret it and you won't have to worry about the bite valve getting dirty when you place your bags on the ground anymore!

This bit valve cover is not a good fit for camelbak's that have the lever to close water flow to prevent leaks. You have to do a stretch to get the cover over the mouth piece. See picture attached.

I bought one of these at a retail store along with my reservoir. It cannot be installed as directed in the instructions. The instructions say to wet the hose and twist the bite valve on, if you do that you will simply rip your bite valve as it does not turn against the hose, it's too tight. I had to cut off the bottom straight portion of the bite valve cover in order to give myself some room to pull the bite valve on with my fingers from the bottom. Normally the bite valve cover covers the entire bite valve and there is nothing to grab onto to pull the bite valve on. I suppose if you bought this for a bite valve you had already been using for a while it might have stretched out a little bit and been easier, but for a brand new bite valve it's impossible to install it as it's sold.

The issue with this product is that it's impossible to install properly. The material to to filmsy and bends when you try to reinsert the drinking hose over the barb of the drinking valve. So, you end up with a half installed drinking hose with the protector on it.

Great idea! Love that I don't have to worry when I take my hydration pack off during a hike whether the mouthpiece will get dirty or not. Camelbak® should make these standard on their packs. Only drawback is that the loops on the Camelbak® packs are too small for these to fit through easily, or at all, depending on the pack. A real design flaw on the pack's part, but I got around it by using a mini-carbiner clip to clip it to the pack.

I love the fact that my bite valve on my Camelbak stays clean. No worries if you set your pack down and the bite valve touches the ground - the cover keeps it clean, as long as you remember to keep the cap on. Great product.
