About Black Diamond Magnetron Gridlock Carabiners

Black Diamond Magnetron Gridlock Carabiners
The Black Diamond Magnetron Gridlock Carabiners are revolutionary and a must-have addition to your climbing gear. With the trademark Magnetron technology, the gate uses two magnetic arms, with a steel insert to hold it securely. This easy-to-use system comes with auto-locking technology and the entire mechanism can be operated with just one hand in case of emergencies. The all new hot-forged construction also enables the unique gridlock shape, critically trapping the belay loop and eliminating rope interference and cross-loading. The I-Beam spine helps to provide greater tensile strength and ensures a smooth and continuous rope feed. The harness is lightweight at only 3 oz. and sturdy with an open gate strength of 1,798 lbf., making it durable and easy to carry. The Black Diamond Magnetron Gridlock Carabiner is a thing you can always depend on while mountain climbing.

Magnetron vs locking gridlock

So I've tried the Gridlock screwgate and the Gridlock Magnetron and I'm thinking I actually like the cheaper, more familiar screwgate better. The problem with the Magnetron is that its ALWAYS locked (unless your actively unlocking it with your fingers) and sometimes you don't want your biner locked, like when your setting up. . . I dunno. It is a slick concept and a nice sleek design. I like how smooth and sleek the gate is. But I will probably get more use out of the screwgate version, so maybe save yourself the extra money. I like both versions for the way they quiet the biner on the belay loop. Be sure to see the youtube video on the gridlock failure so you know how to avoid that (a minor problem to look out for.) I would recommend this item to a friend with lots of money who likes the latest cool gear, lol!
