Burly little snow saw!

By Nick

from Crested Butte, CO 81224, USA

Comments about Black Diamond Flicklock Snow Saw:

I'm very pleased with this saw, it has a good length and had 30cm marked out on the blade for accurate snow pit digging and analysis. The first thing I did when I got this saw was take it outside to the pile of ice and snow that has been forming outside my house in Crested Butte, CO all winter and see if I could cut through it. To my surprise it sawed right through the ice! I then tried to dig my BD avy shovel in and was unable because the ice was too solid. So this thing can cut through what a shovel can't dig! My only qualm with it is that the handle is a tiny bit short when you grip the saw. The flick lock attachment to a ski pole might fix this problem. Overall very satisfied!

Nice Saw

By Patrick

from Fort Collins, CO

Comments about Black Diamond Flicklock Snow Saw:

Lightweight, thin. Cuts well. Stashes in or along the side of your pack very easily. Doesn't fall out of the scabbard on accident. Pole attachment is pretty good. Do be aware that as of this review (12/12/2013) it works with only two ski poles: Traverse, Expedition. I have the 2-piece Traverse, which gives you a longer pole-saw assembly than the 3-piece Expedition.

bomber/sweet

Comments about Black Diamond Flicklock Snow Saw:

I have used this saw on many expeditions, recently in Antarctica while focusing on first ascents in Queen Maud Land. We crafted sweet camps with these saws, they are light, easy to use, and simple. The only snow saw you need.

Simple, light and effective

By Doug

from Bozeman, MT, USA

Comments about Black Diamond Flicklock Snow Saw:

I carry this everyday I go skiing. A good saw is essential for isolating columns for stability tests. This one cuts clean, is sharp enough to slice through ice, but won't tear apart your clothing if you accidently nick it. The only beef I have is that it's 5cm too short for my liking and the ski pole attachment doesn't work with all BD poles. But compared to every other snow saw on the market, and I've used them all, this one is the best.
