Outdoor Performance Shirts
Even when you’re choosing something as basic as a T-shirt, we know you can have a lot of options to consider, especially if you’re active outside. See which type of outdoor shirt is best for your adventures, then find it right here at SunnySports.
Find the right fit and style for your outdoor shirt
For most activities, short-sleeve T-shirts are the way to go. But if you’re fair-skinned, plan on being in the sun, or need a bit of protection from the elements, long-sleeved and even hooded shirts are great. Make sure you check the torso length, though. Shirts that are too short can ride up during workouts, particularly with a tight-fitting pack that has a waist belt.
Stay dry with synthetic materials
Cotton clothing doesn’t “wick” moisture outward, but retains it like a sponge. This means if you sweat heavily in that cotton T-shirt or get caught in the rain in a cotton hoodie, you’ll get cold fast. That can be dangerous. Save cotton for warm and dry conditions, or relaxing in the cabin after a snowy run.
For aerobic workouts in colder, damper climates, look for moisture-wicking blends of polyester and other synthetic materials. Some synthetics even have a degree of SPF to block the sun.
Color is not just a fashion statement
Most outdoor athletes stay away from black shirts, since they heat up from sunlight. Conversely, a pure white performance shirt can get stained with sweat and dirt on its first use.
Many outdoor-lovers choose earthy tones to maintain natural experiences in the woods. Even so, bright orange is a great idea (and may be required) during hunting season in some areas.
