Safest life jacket ever and kid approved

By Protective F.

I bought this life jacket for my 10 year old daughter who is about 80 lbs. She is tall and skinny for her age and we needed a good Type II life jacket for a trip to Michigan so she could ride the jet skis. Their state law says, "Each person less than 12 years of age riding or being towed, behind a personal watercraft (jet ski) must wear a Type I or Type II PFD." There are not a lot of Type II life jackets for kids weighing 50-90 lbs. There are the orange horse collar ones but they are a b...

Best vest we have on our boat for the grandkids

By HOPE C.

It is really good, very light weight, and has a floatation behind the head as required for children under the age of 6. It dries quickly and is comfortable.

Stearns Heads-Up Life Vests are designed to just that, keep your head up if you end up in the water. These US Coast Guard Approved Vests have a durable 400-D nylon shell and PE foam for flotation. The split foam had support will keep a tired individual comfortable while in the water. The vests have reflective trim for high visibility in low light conditions or at night.

Vest has a comfortable polyester liner with a Hydroprene neck and arms. The vests are also equipped with a Hydroprene covered crotch strap for additional comfort while in the water. The Heads-Up Vest has 3 adjustable nylon webbing straps with squeeze" style quick release buckles. Two straps are for the waist and the third is the crotch strap. The vest is also equipped with a full front zipper closure. The Heads-Up Vest is available in 2 sizes: child for weight class 30 lbs. to 50 lbs. (13.6 kg to 22.7 kg) and youth for weight class 50 lbs. to 90 lbs. (22.7 kg to 40.8 kg). All vests have a collar grab strap.

Questions & Answers

Questions about this item:

Helen S  My child has a trach and cannot get it wet. Would this work with parental assistance in a pool?
John B  I am not sure what a trach is but I use this type of vest because they will keep the head out of water. My youngest grandson fell into a pool with 1 on and it flipped him on his back so fast that he barely got his hair wet. This is the ultimate for children around water.
Helen S  A trach is a tube inserted into your windpipe to open restricted airway and enable breathing. So we need it to stay above water.
John B  I assumed this but you know what they they say about assuming. Get this product for your child and I think you will be pleased. The hardest thing to teach your child is to lean forward as it is designed to flip them on there back. It takes about 30 minutes to get them used to leaning forward and they float like a fishing bober. When they are on their back you also need to show them to cross their arm over to get vertical again. Their head and neck are out of the water during this. This is all for first time users. This product has taught 3 of my grandsons to swim with most of the dangers of water eliminated.
Helen S  Thank you. Now I just tried to order a youth vest and they are out of stock.
John B  This is not the only source. Walmart carries this style themed with favorite cartoon characters. Please get one and feel free to let me know how it works out and if you need any help.
Helen S  Thank you
HOPE M. C  Not sure, depends on the weight of the child and the buoyancy of the jacket. It is the best one we have on our boat for 8 grandkids, is inexpensive and light weight, dries quickly.
Helen S  My grandchild is about 47 lbs. Is it buoyant enough to keep neck out of water?
HOPE M. C  Don't know, sorry
Helen S  Thank you
Shopper  Is the youth size also a type 2 us coast guard approved?
MICHAEL R  Yes
Mary B  What is the weight limit on the vest? My son is 63 lbs
cindy s  The best fit will be a youth size vest which holds up to 50-90lbs.
