Fantastic on icy trails

By Chris Z.

I recently used these hiking in the high peaks of the Adirondacks on very steep, icy trails and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they dug into the ice. The straps cinch down nice and snug, once you get them situated on your boot properly. I put on the locks (which prevent the racket from undoing accidentally), but did run into the problem of the locks freezing, which made then difficult to take off (once they thawed, they were fine). Overall, well worth the money for more aggressive,...

Great Crampons

By Shaun G.

Got these for a trip to Dolly Sods. Had 18-24in of snow. Used snowshoes for most of it but other areas I wore these on ice covered sections of the creek. Easy to put on. No issues.

Hillsound Trail Crampon PRO
If you are looking for the right device that has been put to the test as a great traction for snow and ice traveling over diverse terrain and in serious weather conditions, the Hillsound Trail Crampon PRO, is it. The Crampon Pro has taken the best benefits of the traditional ice crampons and combined them making a crampon that is flexible, easy to use and comfortable. It looks like an ice climbing crampons, but is designed for walking and hiking under extreme winter conditions, and not for technical ice climbing. The Hillsound Trail Crampon Pro is made from heat-treat S50C carbon steel, it is lightweight, making it perfect for glacial travel and icy or snowy approaches. It uses simple ratchet buckle bindings, and can be fastened to most footwear easily. Plus the X-shaped polycarbonate harness system reduces pressure points often found in many conventional crampons. Don't leave home without them.

Shopper  Where to find the sizing chart?
Jessica S  Please see this link: http://hillsound.com/hillsound-product/trail-crampon-pro/ for a size chart.
Dissapointed D  What size boot does the XL size pro crampon fit?
JOHN M  Ken, I can tell you that I wear 10 1/2 boots & the ones I bought, I'm sure would accommodate at least 2 sizes larger. But I'm not sure if I bought size LG or XL. Crampons don't state size on them & I don't have box. Can tell you I love these crampons. I've used them a # of times in the Adirondacks & they worked great. Happy hiking John
THOMAS S  I wear a US size 13 or Euro size 47-47.5 They fit great and there is still a little rom to fit a boot size even larger. My guess at least a size 14 but not much bigger.
KEN D  On the Hillsound web site, they list their XL as fitting 12-15. I wear 13 1/2 med. and they fit fine. Not sure how well they would fit a wide, or a stitched sole as they are wider than the typical glued on sole. They go on easy amd work extremely well. Both my brother and I use and love them for hiking in the Winter here in Michigan. The only downside is Hillsound's customer service is really poor. Their products and prices are really good so we have put up with their poor customer service. Hope this helps.
Cat G  Does this come with the "alpine stopper" mentioned in the reviews?
DOUGLAS P  I'm not quite sure what the "alpine stopper" is. Honestly, I really haven't used my trail crampons much. They have a moderate sized spike so that unless you're on glaciers you may find those long spikes trip you up (at least until you get the footing). I ended up with a pair of MICROspikes, and I would urge you to weigh your intended use and consider them (or the Hillsound equivalent). They provide nearly as much traction, don't snag and trip you up, can be folded and stuffed in small pack spaces, and are generally less lethal than full crampons. Also, here in northern New England, the last couple of winters have been low snow. With the MICROspikes, I have no issues with walking on bare ground (or rock) between icy sections. I'm not sure I'd do that with crampons. Good luck on your choice!
JERRY T  Yes, the crampons come with the alpine stoppers. The Hillsound Trail Pro's work great. Several friends traded in other models for these.
JEAN R  Yes, the Hillsound Trail PRO does come with the "alpine stoppers." I've not used the "alpine stoppers" as I've not had to wear the Hillsound crampons in deep snow conditions.
PAUL P  Yes! It does come with apline stoppers. My friend and I both bought this product (Hillsound Trail Crampon PRO) for climbing on Mt Washington and he did not bring his alpine stoppers. He regretted it. He was still able to use his crampons but had to adjust his a few times. The strap on my set actually failed on Tuckers Ravine but they fit so well (size 13), I was able to use them on the decent without any difference in preformance! The strap cracked where it's rivited to the crampon but upon inspection looked like a defect and not caused by damage. Sunny Sports replaced them A.S.A.P and I have used them without problems! AS THE DISCLAIMER SAYS NOT FOR VERTICAL ICE CLIMBING! Used as it's intended and ror the price, I recomend buying this product! I also recomend buying thru Sunny Sports! They stand by their product and customers!
JOHN M  These crampons work great & so easy to put on & take off. By alpine stopper if you mean the ball on the bottom that stops wet snow from sticking to the bottoms, Yes they do have them. I would recommend them 100%.
ROBERT R  Yes. It is included with the crampon.
RENE A  Not sure what is the alpine stopper. It come with a system to block the position. It's a red plastic stopper. The are really good : Easy to use, light, and low metal grip so it's easier to walk with.
BARRY D  Yes the do come with the Red stopper as averted!
BOB P  Yes, my crampons arrived with "alpine stoppers". They work great, too...but they'd be easy to lose.
MANI Z  Yes
