Comments about Light My fire Swedish Fire Steel - Mini:

I own one of these Swedish FireSteel minis and it works great. I am buying another to throw in my other pack just in case. This item produces sparks better than anything else I have ever used. That said you have to know what you are doing to turn those sparks into a fire.

I would recommend practicing with it and putting a few cotton balls or some dryer lint into a zip lock bag and packing it with the FireSteel to make starting that fire a bit easier. Of course unless you find yourself in the middle of the woods naked you will likely have something cotton on you and of course there are many plant materials that you can use as well (fine white birch bark, milkweed seeds, etc.).

The bright orange handle is a plus in my book since it makes it harder to lose. It is common for someone focusing on starting a fire to drop the FireSteel the moment they have a good burning ember that needs some coaching. So the orange handle is a very good idea.

One of these little guys should last you a lifetime, unless maybe you use it to start a fire every day. It is very small and packs light. This is a fun toy for those that want to start a fire like the survivor guys on TV and potentially a great survivor tool under the right conditions (you can get this soaking wet and it will work). But that all said I am still going to throw a lighter and matches in my pack as well.
