Comments about The North Face Primero 85 Pack:

I purchased pack with the hopes of using it on John Muir Trail next year. We took it on a couple trips this year (4 days Pt Reyes, 5 Days Grand Canyon) to work out the kinks which proved impossible. Pack is big enough but it doesn't adjust well, and the load lifters are absolutely worthless. Pack does not tie down well at all, and w/ load-lifters attached to shoulder straps too far down my front torso, the pack is constantly loose and swaying.

Hip-belt pocket is ok size, but the strap that tightens pack down at bottom goes from bottom-corner of pack right over pocket and it's zipper. You have loosen this strap to unzip mesh-pocket to get something in it. Worthless "perk".

Lumbar padding is stiff, and has a crease in it that creates a lump digging into your back.

This is one purchase I regret making.

Comments about The North Face Primero 85 Pack:

This pack will hold everything you need including the kitchen sink. It is great for heavy loads- 60 lbs is a breeze for this thing. The only drawback is it can get bulky when loaded to the hilt, but even fully loaded it rides on the back nicely. The lumbar support is superb, and if you're in a bind for a day pack, you can take the top off and use it as one. The top is entirely waterproof (having completely submerged it in a creek crossing expedition) ensuring the contents inside will stay dry. I have only used the pack once, but continue to learn more about it the longer I play with it. Whatever you can't put in this thing; you won't need.

Bought this backpack for a 6 month backpacking trip around europe. Haven't used it yet, but it still seems a bit small and hard to get to my stuff.

This is a pretty serious back pack.
