I was planning on using this tent for easy trips to death valley or grand canyon campsites, and car camping for my motorcycle track days. I've never used a hub design tent and when I assembled the center cross tubes which are joined by a plastic hub I felt that somehow that hub would be the achilles heel of the design maybe bending the tubes. Then I didn't like that the bottoms of the tubes snap into plastic pieces that I felt if they were damaged it would be a real drag. I prefered the Kelty Grand Mesa 2 design which has no hub, and has no snaps. Keep in mind, I never tested the Gunnison tent in the field so I don't actually know how rugged these plastics are. I did test the Grand Mesa tent and was happy with that. The only 'test' I performed on the Gunnison was that I set it up on my living room carpet and what I wrote here were my immediate gut feelings despite that the plastics and tent looks well designed. The tent seems like a sturdy light weight tent and will likely last for quite a while even if thrashed a bit. I simply don't like depending on the plastic parts too much.

I like the tent. Instructions show for 2 people in alternate positions, but the wife & I had no problems with both our heads at one end, in mummy bags on square air-pads.

ONLY CON:
The rain-fly tie-downs require you to be on flat ground, but not necessarily level.

Bought this recently to replace an old EMS tent that finally needed to go. The tent is fantastic. It is extremely easy to set up (the easiest of any backpacking tent I have had), the two door design is great, it is sturdy, it is light weight and packs well - very compact, minimalist on polls. I had NO condensation problems - had heard bad things about the REI Half Dome on this front and thus went for the Kelty. I didn't have much rain or wind on this trip, but I get the sense that the tent would do well in both. I was also impressed with the amount of space - room for two people and a dog without even being uncomfortable. I just used the tent for 5 days in northern CA both car camping and backpacking and was totally thrilled with it. Looking forward to getting more trips in and using the tent more.
