I had done a dry run in my back yard, following the set up guide, and had no problems then nor when I set it up at my camp site. I did notice right away that the reviews indicating 3 'normal' people wouldn't fit was accurate - I'm 5'8" and use a standard rectangular sleeping bag. Maybe it means 3 using mummy-style bags?
2 of my 3 nights it rained - my last night it poured most of the night! The fly is very simple to attach (color coded), has 2 velcro wraps for each pole (I recommend using those and I learned they can be done from the inside when necessary) but getting in and out with the fly is a challenge. The vestibule flap doesn't zip in the best location nor high enough to allow the ease of entry the tent offers alone - the tent door opens to allow me to step in, turn around then kneel to zip it up. The zip on the fly remains too narrow and too low to allow that.
On the night of the downpour, I did have to close my windows because the fly was dripping onto the screen and that kept the drip from coming inside at that location. The top screening, though, had nothing to block the other steady drip. Had I sealed the fly before use, I'm sure I'd have had no issues.
Ventilation was great even closed up as I was. 90s during the day, lower 70s at night, no winds even with the rain and I was okay.
The first night without the fly left me amazed how much screen there was and how 'open' it felt.
The gear loft plastic clips weren't easy to deal with and I've left the loft in place for storage so I don't have to struggle with it next time, but it's the first loft I've ever had and found it very useful!

After successfully using an Apex 2 for many years I decided to upgrade to the roomier Apex 3.. The poles broke on my first excursion so I was not at all happy and shocked. The poles have been repaired but I am hesitant to use this tent again! The poles are clip on only with no cloth sleeves to hold them well in place like the Apex 2 has. I fear this is a manufacturer defect, but I got the repaired poles back with no letter addressing the issues I brought up!

Our BS Troop use this tent for both weekend campouts and backpacking. Usually just have two Scouts in each on normal campouts and plenty of room for three on backpacking trips.

Comments about Eureka Apex 3XT Tent with Fiberglass Poles:

Initially got the tent for bonnaroo this year but have tested it out during a rainy weekend in a local park last week. Didn't get a ton of wind or rain but it held up fine. Only issue is its pretty heavy but if you'd sleep in the door to door direction I'd think you could squeeze in up to 4 people. Overall great tent for the money, just don't expect it to be a light backpacking design.
