is this good for white water rafting gear?

They are well built and will repel the strongest rain when standing. However, they are not very stretchy for the sometimes greater mobility needs of working a raft/kayak and I'm not sure how well the seams will perform when sitting on a wet seat.

I have not used it for that particular purpose but it has worked well in heavy rain.

Well, I don't know if these would be ideal for rafting. I use them for biking in cold snowy/rainy weather and skiing. They're nicely water proof, but in cold rafting situations, I'd rather have a wetsuit on.

SHORT PANT : HOW LONG?

I wear a 30" inseam. The XL is just a bit longer than i'd want my jeans. I'd say they are 31" inseam maybe a smidge more. Over hiking shoes/boots they are fine and don't drag on the ground. Great pants by the way. I have a pair of NF freedom ski pants. These are basically the lightweight backpacking version of those. The hyvent material is great for the price point.
