Julie M I can't really tell by the picture, but after you unbuckle the two buckles in the front, is the main compartment of the backpack closed by a zipper or a drawstring type of thing? Thanks for any help!

After you unbuckle the top, the top main compartment has a drawstring closure. Also, you cant see, in the picture,there is a zipper running down the side of the pack that opens up to the main area. this is how I access the main compartment on the trail, before stopping to set up camp.
I have had many packs and this is by far the best I have ever owned...especially for the price.

JEFFREY C You can access the main compartment both ways. There is a draw string at the top of the main compartment, and there is a zipper along the side of the main compartment. Access both ways is very easy and accommodating!

ERIC C Actually both as you unbuckled the upper part the main compartment is closed by a drawstring but for easy access you have a side zipper all the way through the pack.

MATT C It does not have a rain cover compartment I just used one of the side mess pockets to store it in.
SETH B It does not have one dedicated to a rain cover compartment. But there are multiple places to store the rain cover.
AARON N It has elastic mesh compartments on both sides. Use them for rain covers or whatever else you can think of.

It's a very good backpack But wish it had Storage compartment on the outside Like the Gregory back packs .
We use this pack for boy scouts So far it's held up very well .

DWIGHT C A cover is attached to the top of the pack that provides rain protection. The cover fits snuggly over the top of the pack and should keep water out. I can't say it's water proof since I've never used it in the rain.

KARMEN A If the rain cover is the part that clicks over the top, yes. Both my husband's and mine have the drawstring closure on top and then another part pulls over that and clicks into the front of the bag. Sorry I'm not a backpack person, we only had these for Europe.
ERIC C There is NO rain cover included. And I have never found any covers from TNF. Maybe have not looked that much!!

It seems to depend on the airline. I was able to carry-on on an overseas trip, but had to check it on a domestic flight. If you don't over pack it you should be fine. It's really a great pack.

ANDREW M That really depends on a few factors. All airlines are different and occasionally have different rules for domestic and international flights. The bag does compress well via the straps. This also depends on how full you pack it. Bottom line, it's close but may not count as carry on for all flights. Depends how picky your airline is and if the ticket/bag desk is in a good mood. The bag does fit in the overhead however. It is a great bag. I have used it on a month long backpacking trip through Europe.
ETHAN N I took it on several international and domestic flights and checked it in as luggage each time. Even if not fully loaded, it's too tall for overhead bins due to the stiff-backed shell.

WAYNE C I'm 6-0 ft. , 190lb. This pack fits like a dream. Great for short camping, hiking trips. Quite adjustable.
ROBERT S I am 6 feet tall and 250, I use a large . But it would size down to fit a much smaller person. It is a great pack, have used it alot.

JEFFREY C Go to North Face website...it will help will help choose the correct size backpack...If you are female, get the backpack designed for ladies..If you are male, get the one appropriate for men. I hope this helps.

I bought that backpack last year and I traveled with it for 10 months and it's great. just don't forget to adjust the back system it's really impotent.
and I think you got to sizes for the backpack, chose the right one for you.
MICHAEL J While a woman could certainly wear this pack, it is most definitely a man's backpack.
ETHAN N I bought this backpack as a male (6' 0") and it worked fine. I think it's "unisex" in the sense that the strap heights and cross-straps are adjustable but it's not the fanciest pack by far -- it's just one of the least expensive for the capacity it holds.

CATHERINE M Hi, it is more of man's backpack. I bought it for my son (14 but small frame) it is a little too big for him around the waist. He says it is comfortable but needs something to divide the bottom part (for sleeping bag) from the upper part. Best regards,

DWIGHT C I used this pack on a 4-day hie through the Grand Canyon. I'm 6' 4" tall and the pack was comfortable the whole trip. It can be adjusted for smaller individuals but I don't know if it would work for a woman.
YEW LEE H is Man Backpack, however I think for Woman still ok.
KYE S i would say it is uni-sex. other than the adjustable torso strap it it well suited for a women. like i said it is adjustable though. it is a large pack, my girlfriend, that i bought the pack for is 5' 6'' and it was a bit too tall for her. we ended up getting something else, the terra 60,which we both have is a great size but is an older model and tricky to track down. this one definitely has newer features that are well designed. good if your lady friend is taller than mine.

ERIC C II am afraid to say it does not. You would have to look for one separately. I ignore if there is one from The North Face.

No the bag doesn't come with a rain bag but it somewhat water resistant. I took this bag to backpack all around Europe and there was day that it was raining and all my clothes didn't get wet. I love this backpack because you can make it smaller or use its full size. Its very durable and easy to pack a lot of stuff into it. Hope this help! I can assure you that you will enjoy the backpack!

DEAN C Yup, it has one pouch on each side to store a water bottle. Problem is, you can't reach them when the pack in on you back, I would imagine that is typical though.

ROBERT S Yes, it does have two mesh pockets. They are larger than you need for a bottle, but holds them nicely.
This pack is a joy to carry, everything fits just right, and I have used many packs that did'nt.
I would recommend it for any but the longest trip, may be a little small for anything over ten days.

Shopper How do you know if your a medium or a large?
SunnySports S You will have to measure your torso length to size the pack correctly. Using a flexible tape measure, measure the length of your torso from the C7 vertebra (at the base of your neck) to the spot on the spine level with the top of the bony hip structure called the iliac crest. Do it two or three times to get an accurate measurement. If you are between frame sizes, always go with the smaller size. If the torso fits, the pack will fit. The torso length of the medium is between 17" - 20", the large is 19.5" - 22.5". I hope that helps. Stay safe and have fun out there! Neal
