Questions about this item:
Shopper Which is the better color to get : All black(classic north face) or the black w/turquoisish accents? plsss help me chose!
KEREN G Hi there. That's really a matter of personal taste. I love color, and I got the one that's two shades of light green (some might call it aqua). I love it, but I don't know if it's still available. If you want black so you don't have to worry about stains/dirt showing up, but you still want a pop of color, then black with turquoise accents is a nice way to go.
Shopper im going to be a fresshman next year im trying to pick a bookbag the recon or boriallis?
i need it to hold 2 1 inch binders , 5 notebooks , 3 foloders, pencil pouch , makeup bag , my angenda , 1 textbook and little things like my phone and i pod
which one can hold all this?
we dont have lockers but we a block schedule so i will not carry all this at once, thanks(:
MELISSA M I don't think the recon would be good for all that. The pockets are not as large as one might think.
JEFFREY K I have the Recon, and I think the Recon could easily hold all of your supplies.
ASHLEY W I have the Recon, and I am very satisfied with it. I can easily fit at least 3 or 4 notebooks/binders and a textbook. I can even squeeze in another textbook if needed. The outside compartment has enough organization space for your smaller items like pencils, phone, iPod, wallet, etc. I don't have the Borealis, but I have heard that it is smaller than the Recon.
ANNA V I think the Recon will be able to fit all of your things, I'm always impressed at how much mine can hold. Plus, the mesh pocket on the front is surprisingly useful.
STEPHANIE C Both backpacks will be able to hold your needs and a little extra ! Have a great freshman year!
Shopper The description says it can fit laptops up to 15". Has anyone ever tried seeing if a 17" will fit in the laptop sleeve?
ASHLEY W My 17" laptop fits, but it is a tight squeeze.
MICHELE M sorry - haven't tried one that large - maybe you can find one in a store to try out?
Shopper How is this backpack for someone who is about 5'2"? Too big, too small or perfect?
PATRICIA H This is not a huge backpack so I think it would be perfect for a smaller framed gal ;)
A K I'm 5'3" and it looks great on a smaller frame. Not too big or small! Highly recommend this back pack, it's stylish and comfortable!
SHARON S Maybe too big... I'm 5'6" and I thought it was perfect for me. But I don't usually think backpacks are too big just based on height so I'm not sure. It's a great backpack though
KAT H My daughter is 4'11" & it's perfect. BUT...I'm 5'5"..& it's perfect for me, too! Just can't go wrong w/it because it's so adjustable.
RANDI S The backpack was perfect for someone 5'3"
KARMELL W Nope, I think its a perfect fit. I am 5'3 and I don't think its too big or small ..
Shopper Is there a big difference between the women's recon backpack and the men/unisex one?
MICHELE M sorry - I'm not familiar with the men/unisex one
KELSEY W I think the main difference is that the women's model has softer back padding, so it's more comfortable if you're wearing a sleeveless shirt or tank top while carrying it. I believe the shoulder straps may also be set a little closer to fit a woman's smaller stature.
Shopper the belt that goes around your waist and chest, is there a place you could hide that away??
CINDY T You can hide the one around your waist, but not the one around your chest.
KARMELL W Well it snaps and you can pull it sight so its behind your back when not in use. I keep mine like that. You don't feel it when your wearing it and it keeps it from falling and hanging down. Hope this helps!
Shopper is it a big bag for a skinny 14 year old too carry for school everyday?
i dont want a large bag when there's hardly nothing inside?
ABBIE RUTH R It really isn't that big, but there's also the Isabella by NorthFace, which is surely smaller and more fit for a 14-year-old to carry to school everyday.
TODD L No...very nice product that woud be ideal for a 14 year old...not too big at all. Just right for a school backpack.
JOCELYN L This backpack fits my laptop, and maybe two binders at most so I don't find it to be that large but it is functional. It seems geared for average-sized high school and college students. The front mesh pocket I've seen lots of people use to to store their helmets from biking to school. Depending on how tall/skinny your 14-year old is and how much they need to carry, this backpack may or may not best suit the child's needs. Hope that helps some.
KATHLEEN H The size of the bag is perfect. My daughter got it in eighth grade. It provided more room than she needed at the time, but it wasn't too big for her body size. She too is not that big of a kid. Now that she is a freshman in high school, she is thankful for the room to put all of her books and notebooks....definitely couldn't go any smaller. I would highly recommend this backpack. Stylish and practical.
PATRICIA H It's really not too large of a bag. My daughter carries it to school with absolutely no books inside. Perfect size and great quality!
KAREN S My 14 year old wanted this bag for school this year. We bought it for her and she has been thrilled with it...holds alot, but doesn't look too big when empty. My 14 year old is also on the thin side and has never told me it looks too big on.
HUETRANG D I bought this daypack for my 12 years old daughter who is just under 5 feet and on the slim side. I had been afraid that it would be too big for her but she liked it a lot and found it very comfortable to carry.her stuff to school. I know it will last with her through high school.
KATHLEEN W My daughter is tiny-- 4' 11", and the back pack is great!!! Lots of compartments without being too big. I bought a second for my 15 y.o. Without hesitation.
Shopper How many pockets are there?
MELISSA M There are 16 pockets total. This includes a laptop pocket, a zipped pocket on the outside front, 4 for pens, 2 mesh pockets on the sides for drinks and the large mesh pocket in the front. The rest of the 16 are various sizes and within the smaller opening.
KATHLEEN W more than you will need.
ABBIE RUTH R There are 3 visible pockets and one mesh pocket in the front. The main compartment has a laptop pocket. The second compartment has a pocket with a velcro close, a pocket with a zipper close, two small pockets, a cellphone pocket and four pockets for writing utensils. The smallest front pocket can fit a large wallet. Then there are two side mesh pockets and a large front mesh, as well.
KATHLEEN H Two main large, zipper pockets for books, etc. One has divided compartments for pens, pencils, calculator, etc. The other has a large divider. (Could put 13" laptop in, padding on back of backpack for protection.) One smaller zipper pocket for phone, wallet, etc. Also has large mesh pocket on front and two smaller mesh pockets on sides for water bottles.
KAT H Can't say how many exactly...but they are everywhere in & out of the backpack. There's room for everything to be stowed away, with pockets to spare.
MICHELE M There are three pockets that you access from the outside (on top). The smallest one is good for a phone and other small items, and the others are medium and large in size.
KELSEY W On the outside, there are 2 pockets for water bottles (fit nalgenes), a large mesh pocket, and a small zippered pocket. In the biggest inside compartment, there is a clipped and padded sleeve for a laptop. In the smaller inside compartment, there are 6 open pockets, 1 zippered pocket, and 4 pen slots. There are plenty of pockets!
Shopper Will this backpack fit 5 one-inch binders?
ABBIE RUTH R I don't think 5 one-inch binders will fit especially if they are full of papers. Maybe three full one-inch binders fit. Maybe four empty one-inch binders fit.
It is a very good backpack though!
KATHLEEN W I believe so. It is spacious and sunnysports had the best price. My daughter is happy with this back pack.
MELISSA M I don't have one to try, buy it looks like it should. However, not much else would fit in with it. I found the main pocket to be smaller than all other backpacks I have had ( non- northface that is).
KELSEY W Can't answer that specifically, but these backpacks hold more than they look like. I've been able to fit 2 laptops (one big work Dell and a personal MacBook) and a stuffed 2 inch portfolio in it before, with some room to spare. I can't imagine 5 1-inchers would be a problem.
SHARJEEL K I have never personally had to put 5 one-inch binders, but this thing is huge! So my educated guess would be yes.
CHRISTINE S Hi,
This bag may be able to fit 5 empty 1" binders, but I don't think it would fit five 1" binders that are completely full. I would say that it would fit four comfortably. Hope this helps!
KELSEY L Yes, I love that this also has a built in computer case (probably fits up to 15"). But it will definitely fit 5- 1 inch binders and organizes pencils and tools very well! It's my favorite North Face Backpack!
ANNIA Y Yes. This is the best bag ever. I use it all the time. I use it for the gym, work and travel.
