Can I put a bottle in the side pocket? Is that streching?

Yes, the side pocket does fit a water bottle, but does not stretch much. If your main compartment is too full, a bottle might not fit. Also, the pocket is shallow and does not hold tall water bottles well. I have lost water bottles because they popped out of the side pocket.

Yes, on both sides but not huge bottles (1/2 a litter fits easily).
BTW, it's an awesome bag, I love it.

Yes, but it doesn't feel like the most secure place if your are doing an activity that would jar the pack around a lot. I've used this pack for mountain biking and would not put a water bottle in the side for that but I think normal hiking would be fine.
