Essie L Will this pack well enough to take on a camping trip?
BASIL E I got this bag 2 years ago and it is a fantastic bag. It packs up very well and fits well in my pack (Dana Design). It is comfortable in warm weather and does well in cold. Haven't been in anything lower than upper 20's but it does well in that temp range.
TANYA R Hi~ WE love our sleeping bags. They are light weight and very warm. They are simple and a great value.
DAN S This bag packs very small. For being so small, I am pleasantly surprised it is so warm!
TONY C I use this bag strickly for camping in the BWCA. It packs down well and is very light. This bag is not the smallest packed bag you'll find but what you gain is comfort. I have used nearly 10 different sleeping bags over the past 15 years for camping in the BWCA and this bag is by far my favorite. To me, its a perfect mix of packability and comfort.
Essie L Would you recommend any other bag for camping purposes?
TONY C There are alot of other bags out there that would work well but it really depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for the lightest, smallest, bag possible?- go with a down bag. Kelty makes some good bags also. For summer camping with some chilly nights I've found that a 20 or 30 degree bag works pretty well. I like a rectangular bag over a mummy bag because I like the room for my feet. (Mummy bags always feel cramped). Also, its nice to unzip the bottom if its a warm night. Hope this helps.
ENRICO C Hello,
no, unless you are 'car camping', I would not recommend it. It's kind of bulky when folded/rolled up and not optimal to attach or put inside a backpack.
Best,
Enrico
MICHAEL M This is an excellent bag for car camping. I wouldn't use it for backpacking unless you have a big pack and aren't going far. I like the bags and have 4 of them for my kids for campground camping.
MEGAN B Yes, I have often traveled with this bag and used it backpacking as well. I have been very happy with the warmth and size of this bag.
SCOTT M I got it for car camping. It is nice, not too heavy, but bulky. It is not really a packing bag. getting igt back in the provided stuff sack is a chore and some. I just do not like mummy bags. I bought two, and they zip together...more toasty with two. I bought my 5 year old the kids version, Great Smokey. We love them but do not use them for hiking. If you are willing to pack this you will have a nice bag at night...however, it may be a bit bulky.
Essie L Would you make any recommendations for a sleeping bag that isn't as bulky but still has more room than a mummy sleeping bag?
KEVIN M It packs to about 8 1/2 by 15. Not the smallest or tightest, but not bad either.
JILL R Yes. It packs down nicely and fits into the "stuff sack" that comes with it. We are car campers and it does just fine. Nice bag for the price!
FRANK S It comes with a compression sack, It is hard to get in but it compresses to about 6 inches in diameter and 16 inches long. It is very light considering the dimensions. If you are going on a long hike for days away from the car I would recommend another bag. My son uses it on this boyscout outings which are 2 day trips and he could not be happier. (diffirent compression sack) He has camped in weather down to 10 degree and sleeping in his longs johns has had no problem. I hope this helps. I would recomend this bag to anyone.
MANUELA L I love this sleeping bag, but it is not one to take hiking. If you are planning to drive somewhere to camp, then yes, take it, but it is too big to carry around.
EDUARDO G If you put it in a compression sack, it shrinks down very nicely. I don't recall off hand what size compression sack is necessary, but it packs down nicely for backpacking (although it is a little large for backpacking, it does the job).
