alice m is this the recycled material? if so, is it shinny or rough like the original one?
MICHAEL K I wondered about the material when i purchased mine also. To look at it you would never know the difference in fabric. This is a great overall lumbar pack. Much better than an older EMS lumbar pack that I went through two of. Optional shoulder straps are very helpful. I don't regret buying mine one bit. Great price here too!!
ROBERT W having not seen the original I'm afraid my answer may be iffy, however mine is rough not shiney. great product but my only complaint would be that the lumbar part can't be removed. this is just my personal peeve cuz i carry it with the shoulder strap only and the lumbar stuff bulks the pack up considerably, no matter how you try to fold them back. its so well stitched together that even removing it all together is impossible. mine is black so I don't know about the red one though I assume its from the same sort of material.
GERRY H I have the recycled material version. It is a bit shinier than regular pack cloth, but not so much that it is unusually noticeable. I've had it several years and I had to go look at it to see how shiny it is (or isn't)! It's an outstanding pack, especially when used with the optional shoulder straps :)
Hope this answer is helpful.
KEN S According to Mountainsmith, the pack is all recycled material. It is not shiny and looks no different than non-recycled material used previously. Nice pack and very versatile and well-constructed. I use mine a lot for bike tours, xc skiing, travel, and short hikes.
RICHARD K Alice my 2009 Mountainsmith Day is made of Redura which is a recycled material, in my opinion the material it is not shinny. The material has a texture that is simular to cordura. This lumbar pack is of good quality and I would buy another if the need were to arise. Consider buying a set of pack straps, if you carry a lot of items in the pack you'll not regret it.
ROSANNA C Yes it's recycled material and it's not shiny at all. It looks just like original material. It's very durable...have used for traveling, camping, hiking and everyday use. The mesh side pockets are very convenient.
BLAIR R Yes, it is recycled but it isn't shiny. I love it.
KYLE B This one was before they started using recycled materials.
TREY M The fabric is not shinny. Can't tell it is made of recycled materials.
alice m thanks so much for your help!
JEFFREY C The pack I received is the REDURA, recycled material, fabric. It looks and functions exactly like the original one, but the material is from a different source. It has the same rough texture as the original, and if you didn't look for the REDURA label, you'd never know there was a difference between the two. Best pack ever...no joke, I used this pack for grad school, as a carry-on when I fly, to ride my bicycle, and as a motorcycle throw bag. Mountainsmith makes a great product in this pack.
