Don't get wet in this tent!

It is unfortunate that multiple reviewers here are getting wet in this tent because it's not necessary if you know how to use guy lines. The reviewers below William and Sooner 8 have it right but I will also explain ... beats me why MSR does not include this info in their set-up video. So when you get the tent the included guy lines are attached to the top guy loops on the sides and back of the tent. Untie and move them down to the lower loops on all 3 sides. If you forget how to tie the line... onto the loop, look up "two half hitches" on the internet. Now you can stretch the fly to your stake and either use the included tensioners (nice that these are not plastic!) or use a taut line hitch to tighten your line. I really appreciate that this fly has two guy loops on the sides and three on the back, plus plenty-long included lightweight cording because you can stretch the line to the stake first, then bring it up to the higher guy loops and then back down to tie it off. If the weather is going to be very windy or rainy, this brings the fly sufficiently away from the tent body. In the back, it also improves ventilation (use the middle loop) if it's going to be very hot. I have the most-recent version of this tent so perhaps these loops and guy lines have been added but I am very excited about the fly and do not get wet. I also note that seam sealing the tent is not necessary. MSR includes a seam sealant for when it's needed, which is the case with every tent but now I won't have to go out and buy some. Other stuff: I backpack with my dog in the high mountains around the American West, especially in Colorado. I have gone through 2 iterations of Big Agnes solo tent products and, due to poor quality on top of terrible customer service, I gave up on them. I am encouraged by the great reviews about MSR's customer service altho I have not had to use it yet. In my opinion, this tent design is akin to the Big Agnes Copper Spur solo tent. I like that it's not a "flashlight"or "fly creek" design that tapers down at the feet. As other people have said, it's very roomy (I am a 5'4" woman). Also, as explained in the reviews, the vestibule is huge. My dog can hang in there out of the rain (and away from me if she's soaked), or I put my backpack and gear in the vestibule when my dog gets in the tent with me. The front-entry door is plenty big enough to get in and out and you can simply reach in to get stuff instead of crawling all the way in to get your headlamp or whatever that somehow always makes it to the back in those other designs. I also like that it's light colored on top to let light in (very important for me when I'm stuck in the tent for hours due to bugs or a bad storm) yet there's privacy on the lower part of the tent body. There are two small gear pockets on the top and one on the side near the bottom - again perhaps a recent addition as it was suggested by William in 2020. There are definitely lighter solo tents out there but I have found at least 2 of them to be unreliable due to too-light materials that break or rip or collapse in very bad weather. A tent serves as an emergency shelter ? don't get caught up in saving a few ounces and spending hundreds of extra dollars! This is the perfect solo tent for me and probably many others out there.

Very good one person tent

Several long rainy days and nights in the Big South Fork Wilderness and the Hubba one person did great. I'm 6-0, 185 and had plenty of room in the one person NX. It held up over one brutal night with 1.5 inches over about 6 hours. The tarp anchor points don't come with guy-lines which is confusing upon first set up, and they are essential to a dry experience. But three pieces of chord no longer than 6 inches and they are easily staked in for a secure tarp. I was dry as a bone. The vestibule i...s huge..and seems to double the available space. I put my shoes, backpack and cooking stuff in there and was still room to easily get in and out and that stuff stayed dry. There are four loops in the ceiling and at home I installed a huge net hammock up there (which I bought from BigAgnes) which fits almost everything that I kept in the tent. I seemed-sealed it before I left. For the designers..and you probably know this?two little triangular pockets in the tarp on either end where the cross-bar ends, a guy-line connection in the lower middle of the tarp to pull it out on those long soggy night, better overall material on the vestibule (it's not as waterproof as the tarp material), and an opposite side triangular pocket. Great tent!
