Simpler and stronger

I got my old Whisperlite Internationale out a few weeks back in anticipation of a few winter hikes with the kids now that they're getting old enough. I checked it and found a split in the plastic below the brass knob of the old design. I bought my stove in 1996/97, so 26 years is pretty good. I ordered a new pump and was pleasantly surprised to get a new wind screen and reflector with it too - wasn't expecting that! I have use it on a two day trip into the hills and can say it has better cont...rol than the old pump. The Whisperlite International was always a 'full bore or off' kind of stove, and while I'm not sure I can say that it 'simmers' now, it certainly gives more control. The design of the fittings look to be improved to prevent any future splitting or cracking of the plastic, which I appreciate from an Industrial Design point of view. Because my stove is quite old and after asking MSR's customer service, I used a wire bender at my workplace's workshop to change the wire clip profile to copy the more recent stoves. This lets me use the wire control knob easily. Glad I can keep my old stove going, it brings lots of good memories.

It's great that MSR makes

It's great that MSR makes a replacement pump for a 20+ year old MSR Whisperlite Stove. It's even better that a 20+ year old MSR Whisperlite Stove still works exactly the way it's supposed to. The new pump had it running immediately with zero issues.
