I got this coat for my son last spring, and it fits him great and is quite warm. I got one for me this autumn because of the way it zips up around the neck so well and has a great hood--much better than the othr coat I've had for years.
We will put lightweight down sweaters on underneath these when we are in Canada, walking among polar bears, as it will be quite frigid. Otherwise, we wear these for our not-as-freezing Colorado winters, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, etc. What would make these... better: zip-out linings.

I brought this coat for my son, he's only had to wear it a couple of days. However, for the next two days the temperature will be dropping and the windchill will be in the single to double digits like 9-15 degrees, so we'll find out.

I am not sure about the official rating, but this is the warmest jacket I found for my 12 year old. We live in NY and it was a really cold winter last year. This jacket performed beautifully. Very warm, extremely good quality. After 2 seasons of wearing with no issues, the pull on the zipper came off. Easily fixed at the local dry cleaner/tailor.

I don't know the rating, but my son and I each wore one of these by the Hudson Bay last winter, where it was -20 and windy...we stayed warm! (But we did have layers on underneath.) It is wonderfully warm for us in CO, for skiing or walking around town. We highly recommend this parka.

im 16 and 5'10 i wear a size medium in mens jackets. would this coat fit the same ?
LESLIE S
I meant that I didn't think it would fit a 16 year old who is 5'10 and is a medium in men's jackets.

This jacket was purchased for my then 11 year old son who is just growing out of it now that he is turning 13. He is in perfect proportion for his age and height, so I don't think this would fit a medium sized man.

is this jacket sizing for kids and if so how large would the extra large be in men?
KAREN LEE B
It is about a Men's small, but the sleeves are definitely shorter, and there may be other proportional differences. I am a woman, 5'7", 120#, 34A chest, and the x-large fits me with plenty of room for bulky layering underneath (I can wear a lightweight down jacket--thicker than a down sweater--underneath it). Sleeve length and back length are good. I would've gotten the large instead, but the sleeves were a tad too short.
