Just wanted to update that I loved this pack throughout my trip. It was comfortable to wear, even for hours at a time, whether walking or standing on a train. I ended up hiking 2 hours between Monterosso and Vernazza in the Cinque Terre in Italy with my full pack, and it wasn't a problem, even though the hike was quite challenging.

I was able to pack about 10 days' worth of comfortable clothes for my 3 week trip (no gear, no high fashion), following Rick Steves' packing recommendations for women (Google for it if you need packing advice, like I did).

We got rained on once, and the pack remained almost waterproof: it was just the stuff in the outermost pocket that got a little damp.

Overall, I love this pack and the price was great.

I was considering both the women's Kelty 2500 and the women's North Face Terra 40 for a 3 week trip to Italy. They both hold just about the same amount, but the Kelty's smaller appearance and the suitcase-style top zip made it the preferred choice. I also appreciated the soft handle in the center of the pack for loading in and out of airplane bins. Plus, the price was right! I'm 5'2", 130 lbs, and the pack fits very comfortably on my shoulders and back. I can pack a week's worth of clothing and other travel necessities in this pack (will do a couple of washes while I'm away) to get 3 weeks' worth out of it. I'll post another review once I've completed my trip with the Kelty 2500.

I wish the side zip pockets were big enough to hold my sneakers! They're just too small. I've got smaller items in there instead.

It really needs more pockets. It's hard to find things in the one big pocket this backpack has. Some sort of divisions would be helpful.

Bought this for my girlfriend. She carries about 25lbs of books and stuff to and from school. This pack is working very good for her.
